Extra Noise

Hello,

Just reporting.
I love the KX drivers: it allows me to really use the subwoofer of my active 5.1 system with Audigy2! Something that Creative never gave me with their own drivers. Also the sound clarity is very good...

But, I have noise on all the channels. Similar things were reported on the Audigy2 ZS(?) cards on some of the forums here. To my rather uninitiated ears it sounds like blank noise, coming equally from all the channels. It's audible all right, I don't need to specifically listen to it. Yes, it does sound a bit like there were some unused input connection. However it is not, and there is no extra input even activated. Currently I have only wave and AC97/line in activated (from TV tuner). And to make it worse, EVEN when disabling those two (so that no input is active!) I have the same noise.

It also could be something like line/computer noise on the channels, except that it is not: I can't hear similar noise with Creative original drivers. Also I think that even this system without any special protections should NOT give that kind of noise. And besides, I can hear very low electricity noise on the line, much below the "white" noise. The cables are rather unprotected, but this "white" noise is much louder than the "hum". Oh yes, and of course the noise totally disappears when I plug the line from the sound card, so it's not just the cables...

Also it seems that the noise output is not depending on any of the volumes, nor other speakers or woofer being on or off...

The other similar reports on the other forums I read about this kind of noise indicated soem other card, like Audigy2 SZ. I have the "original" Audigy2 (internal, no extensions). The KX Project drivers are 3534 - debug. I haven't tested other KX drivers.

In the beginning I didn't hear this noise, so I believe it to be from similar "retroactively starting" (from the KX drivers installation day) noise than seen on some other forums.

The Peak Meter on DSP panel gives me ~-72dB noise... Which I am not sure it should be audible or not... I am not very knowledgeable about the whole DSP-tool at all.

Of course this CAN BE clearly some Creative Labs problem: it's relatively clear that they have something wrong with the Audigy2 cards: they have had this super-low subwoofer signal since ages, and they can't (obviously don't want to) fix the problem. This COULD be something that the Audigy2 is making too much noise with .1 (or 5.1?) line, and thus creating all the other crap on the line. But I can't prove this at all, and I just expect that this is driver related... Because first it's not heard on Creative own drivers (nor is there subwoofer signal at all...) and second because I believe it is not found on the first days of KX-Project use.

I can be mistaken, but the noise is still there.
Thanks for listening.

System Specs

the noise *could* be from your speakers aswell

try updating to 3537 to see if that helps

Thanks for the tip. I'll have a try.

I really doubt it's the speakers, they aren't the sloppiest of 'em speakers. Could be my cables though, they aren't that great, except that...

I am (rerere)retesting the Creative drivers right now, with some serious active monitors level-tweaks, and the noise is insignificant compared to the late KX drivers. Yes, the white noise persists, but I have to be really close <25cm from the speakers to even perceive it. With KX it is clearly audible from anywhere in the room. (You have to listen at it, but it's audible anytime)

However with these Creative drivers the control over the speakers, and especially the subwoofer is nowhere adequate.

I'll be checking the beta drivers. (I did download the latest stable version)
Thanks.
