I have the same problem.
When the microphone isn't muted you hear it all the time, even if the AC97 is disabled in output, or even when the main sound is disabled or muted ( so it shouldn't be able to make any sound anymore ) the micro still can be heard.
I have a SB Live 1024 running on XP, but never had a problem with the same setup before, untill some time ago, and I can't fix it in anyway. Some kind of trick to reset the sound card would do the trick maybe ?
I tried global reset, reset AC97 but those both did not help. It still stays the same.
Beginning to become quite desperate

in the DSP
disconnect the prolog's AC97 inputs from the xrouting
then connect directly to the epilog's rec inputs

Doesn't help
Like I said before even if the record is muted or the AC97 output or even the main sound channel is muted, you can still hear the mic.
Now with your tip I even totally cleared the DSP, nothing should work either then right ? Well the mic can still be heared.

I uninstalled the Kx drivers and let it reinstall the default WDM drivers. No problems occured it worked like it should.
I reinstalled the Kx drivers, and same problem again.
Does anyone know how to address the soundcard directly or where windows keeps the settings ?
I checked the registry but, all I could find for KX where the values for it's mixer and for the windows mixer. But nothing was wrong over there.
All help appreciated

I suspect, since you say you let it reinstall the default WDM drivers, there are still traces of former drivers on your system, and that's what's not allowing the kX driver to work right.
Turn off System Restore for all drives 1st. Use Driver Cleaner after uninstalling all the Creative drivers and software. Driver Cleaner can be found here: http://driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=56277 Then, 1st use the Cab cleaner tool for (SP1) or (SP2) whichever is relavent, then use Driver Cleaner for Creative and kX audio. Driver Cleaner should be used in Safe Mode.
Reboot, and If done correctly Windows should not be able to install drivers for your soundcard. Reinstall the kX drivers, reboot and turn System Restore back on.
I'm assuming youre running Win XP.

Mmm the WDM drivers are the one't that are supplied default with windows. The moment I uninstall Kx those are installed.
I don't have the creative drivers installed at all . The Kx drivers where and are the only sound drivers installed.
I will give it a try now, but ... I don't think it'll do anything different. I'm sure the WDM drivers will be installed again the moment I reboot windows with the current drivers uninstalled ( Kx ).
But we'll see I guess.
Update: Nothing changed still the same problem

If windows is installing drivers automatically, it indicates that you did not turn off System restore. You have to turn off system restore before you use Driver Cleaner. Windows wont let Driver Cleaner go into files used by System restore unless you turn off system restore. That's the way it was about a year ago when I had problems with Windows automatically installing drivers, and I've done it this way ever since without any of those types of problems. I'm sure that's your problem, windows has drivers still on your system. And you may need to clear the registry of old crap, too, but I dont advise you to do that unless youre certain of what youre doing cause if you mess up the registry by deleing necessary entries, youre going to have to reinstall Windows.
Depending on how important it is for you to have the kX driver work correctly, will determine your willingness or reluctance to start from scratch (that means reformat the drive and reinstall windows. BTW, I have never had windows install any default WDM driver for my soundcard, to me that's unheard of, unless you have some preinstalled windows PC, like HP or Compaq. If that's the case, I see why your system is screwed up. Those installation CDs that come with preinstalled windows PCs like Hewett Pacard and Compaq puts all kinds of crap on the PC and makes things hard to do if you want to change anything other than what's installed by default.
As for me, I control what's installed on my PC and how my PC runs, and if a problem arises that hijacks the way my system works, I start from stratch (if I cant figure out the issue without reinstalling Windows) and get it working like I want it, but hey, that's just me.
