Here's my configuration... And as I've stated before, the problem with my system, is that my surround speakers don't work. If I do the whole epilog thing, it automatically connects the subwoofer and center also to Epilog, and I haven't been able to separate them. When connected to the Epilog, the surround works, but the center and subwoofer disappears...

That is a digital speaker system, right? SPDIF is stereo only unless AC3/DD is used (which cannot be used (AC3 Passthru) with kX and your card model (any 10k1 card model)). If you are using the four pole mini-jack to DIN adapter, then make sure that "Digital Output Only" mode is enabled, and that Surrounder (kX Speaker Setup applet) is configured for 5.1. yes, im using the four pole adapter to take from my cards digital output into the digital input on my box, that is set to; input digital din, output fourpoint digital din 5.1
i have audio devices set to 5.1 speaks. Kx speaker setup as 5.1 surround on and sub on. anything else? niklz |

That sounds right, so I am not sure why it is not working.
Are you using the default DSP config? Do you have regular (analog) speakers that you can use to test with, to be sure that you are getting surround from the analog outputs? Make sure that you are testing with audio that has more than 2 channels. You might try resetting AC97 (AC97 page of kxmixer), and then redo the settings. I do not have a digital speaker system to test with, so I am limited on how much I was able to test the digital outputs, but they all seemed to work last time I checked (I have not tested with 3539, but I assume nothing changed with that in that in 3539). |

i havnt changed the dsp... and i dont know how to reset the AC97.. if u could explain.
im using a dvd with 5.1. but its the test that doesnt work.. which obv should. if i put the box onto music sound comes out of all the speaks so all the ports work fine. niklz |

On the AC97 page of kxmixer is a button that says "Reset AC97".
As for the kX speaker test, I am not sure if it works with the digital outputs or not (I never tested it myself), so be sure to test with something else. As for the DVD, make sure that it is set to output to SPDIF, and that you see the AC3 Decode popup from kX, otherwise it is most likely not outputting 5.1. Try this: Download the "6 Channel ID .wav" file from here. Play the wav in Windows Media Player, and make sure that the default Windows/Directsound device is kX Wave 0/1. See if you hear all 6 speakers when playing that file. BTW: What OS are you using? |

using XP, tried the AC97 reset, nothing. used the wav file and got the same results no center and no sub, thing is sub works while playing a dvd just no center.
couldnt find a setting in the dvd for spdif using media player classic to do it, can try another program like vlc if u think it will make a difference.. havnt seen that AC3 decode popup either. niklz |

I cannot think of much else right now...
You might want to check the cables for bent or missing pins. Beyond the above, you might consider installing the Creative driver (if for nothing else, just to see if it works correctly with that driver (if you do, be sure to let us know if it works)). If I think of anything else... |

i know all the pins work because on a different setting all the speakers work its just not surround, and the whole reason im using kx to begin with is because i cant find the right creative drivers for this card :P
is there really nothing else you can think off? |

i.e. Even if all the speakers work (i.e. when up-mixing via the speaker system itself), this does not necessarily rule out problems with the connections between the sound card and the speaker system. |

BTW: Regarding the Creative driver, have you looked here:
BadBoyforum Profile, BadBoyforum Details - FileFront.com I think you want the one for SB Live! 5.1 (SB0228). |

lots of progress! managed to get it too work with MI3 using the sb original drivers thru vlc, needed to put it onto spdif and use the double decoder setting on my box and now it works like a charm!
so.. is there much point in me trying the same settings with kx?? niklz Last edited by niklz; Sep 17, 2007 at 08:21 AM. |

last post is a little inaccurate it all works fine now, and i have all the speakers set up properly and its great, running on the default sb live drivers.
is it worth getting the kx drivers.. and trying to get them to work, what benefits are there? |

kX is way more configurable then the Creative drivers, and offers ASIO support that is missing with the CL driver for these cards. kX does not support EAX, and cannot do AC3 passthru with these cards. Quote:
i.e. When your speaker system does the decoding, the sound card sends only 2 channels of audio (AC3 passthru), and the speaker system decodes it to 6 channels. This is not the same thing as sending six channels of audio to the speaker system directly. You still need to test that functionality. i.e. Try the 6 Channel ID wave file...
