Did you replace your old RAM with new memory, or did you add more RAM to the existing 256?

Did any of your timing / bus speed settings change?

i replaced my old ram (Kingston 256mb DDR PC3200 CAS3) with brand new ram
(OCZ Dual Channel Premier 2x512 DDR PC3200 CAS 2.5 3-3-7) and all my problems disappeared.
so yes the CAS timing changed from 3 to 2.5.
i've also run the new ram at both 333mhz ddr and its stock 400mhz ddr with no change in the beeping. (still gone)

I've been using version 3537 for the longest time without problems. Now I lose my sound every once in a while or this high pitch noise plays but it's not beeping. Considering that I haven't changed my hardware at all in that time or any BIOS settings I'd have to say this problem has nothing to do with the drivers at all unless microsoft patched something which caused kxproject to get borked. Haven't used windows update in ages though.

I often have this problem, but only when my printer is on. It's plugged on an USB2 card and the IRQ is share with my A1. When I swich off the printer, about 20 minutes after, the sound comes back correct.

Hope this helps.

This is exactly what I'm seeing. Used to work great. Now the sound quits and/or I get the high pitched sound. Not sure if that's the bug being discussed by this topic or not.

high pitch squeal or no sound

Not sure if this is the problem....but quite regularly with the new kx drivers
5.10.0.3537 I get no sound at all and every now and then I get the squeals. The only way I can get sound back is to reboot. I previously used a copy of the kx drivers I downloaded about a year ago and I had the problem far less frequently. In addition I used to be able to run a midi file using the kxsoundfont and the sound would then return to normal after about 15 sec of playing it.

Im going to go on the search for some of the old kx drivers for now.....Are there any archives?

I had the same but finally I've resolved it and found my main reason I had kt133 main board and now i'm on nforce2. i'm using some sound blaster live value. I can use my system for long time without any problem however problems seams to appear after a few minutes after starting emule and using it. No other programs gives me this constant beep noise or sometimes silence. I don't remember but AFAIR closing emule doesn't fix the problem. Sound is unstable until reset. I had almost completly changed my system and the only thing the same is the driver and soundcard. Emule likes to open many file handles and deal with many connections at once. Maybe this fills the DMA buffer and soundcard jumps into problems. I'm creating my own soft for karaoke http://www.ustar.prv.pl/ . When running emule everything works, seeks properly etc. Only sound input is a beep. Yes. It somehow captures it. I'm not too sure about this. Just let me know if someone is willing to resolve this and want my help.

I'm constantly using eMule with somehow pretty aggressive settings and i can say it never was the reason for this bug. If this was true i'd have problems every day.

There must be something else. I'm testing Kx 3538i without Kx Gameport (using native Creative Game port drivers). I thought this might be the reason for this bug. So far so good. We'll see...

For me it's been always the reason. Maybe there are other software which can use system resources in a way, which makes kxproject driver to behave improperly.

It's not emule related

I never use emule and got the bug frequently in different players but most of the time it's winamp I use.
I solve it by double clicking Xtimes on a song in the list and It stops.

So you think you could help?
What is your solution please?

Funny thing is that i don't have beeping anymore. I get complete silenece instead.
But i got that beeping with 3537 series and some older 3538 series...

Just got it again
I tried someones advice and i was clicking on one song like nuts (first in WinAMP and then in WMP10). It was switching between silence and beeping and after like 30 seconds of crazy clicking i got music back.
Weird crap but it worked. Hope Eugene will find solution for this because its so annoying grrrrr!

Let's be real. This thread was started on 2002 and there is still no solution.
Why that? Actually the answer is probably very simple. The kxDrivers are pushing the hardware to its limits. There is proably a buffer that is too small, latency issues etc...
If you take a softsynth and set its buffer to less then 5ms, you get exactly the same kind of weird noises. At the end of the day, the hardware is now probably too old for the expected performance.
There is no solution.
There won't be a solution.

Are you sure about what you say?

Hi
Ok kx pushes hardware to the limit.

But this bug is not asio related and has nothing to do with 2ms.
You can get it at 8ms or 23 ms.
You can get it in winamp with directsound output and no other soft active.
So what you say is not correct.

I got 5 machines with SBLIVE and one with Audigy.
I only get the bug on the one with Nforce2 chipset. I ask myself if it isn't a memory adressing problem specific to this chipset because it has a really specific way to manage Ram and memory >> dual channel

Does this bug exist with another chipset ?

It sure does: I have an Asus A7V133 with the VIA KT133a chipset (which is reported numerous times in this topic AFAIK).

Hi Guillaume

Two of my machines are Via chipset based (Asus Motherboard) and they don't have this bug.
One is PIII 850 and other Athlon XP 2400.

The only common point I see with your hardware and my buggy machine is radeon 9600XT

But I know this is not a big help
Sorry

When I had a Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo I also experienced this problem, so it is not videocard related (which would be rather strange anyhow). However, both are ATi Radeon cards...

my problem with kX

Hi this is my first post...

I own nforce 2 based motherboard and i've used kX for few months without any problems. Recently i had to throw out one of 3 ddr sticks cause it was bad (downgraded from 768mb to 512mb) and all of the suden the next day i get no sound/pitch sounds... i'm not sure if its related with the problem u all are talking about but its like - i turn on the computer and everything is fine till i play winamp for few minutes and use firefox or ms office word or some random aplication then sound just cuts off totally i can hear a thing in any program like its dead when i play mp3 i can see two red stripes in kX's EQ. when i do things like open outlook or click delete in total commander i can hear pitch sound instead of sound. After few seconds and few winamp 'plays' i start to hear pitch sound instead of song but its not static, its not all that loud and noisy its just pitch noises constantly changeing. I once managed to get rid of that problem by playing a tab in guitar pro in midi format it played normal then my winamp played OK. This doesn't occure during games. If i make clean bootup and play some game i can do it for hours and sound is fine. then when i play music it cuts off :/ All i did lately was remove one stick of ram and change ati catalyst from 5.7 to 5.9 and thats about it... i thought at first that my soundcard went totally dead but after reboot it played fine for few minutes is this the problem u all are talking about or maybe it could be driver corruption? i remeber while testing World Of Warcraft for few last days and getting lots of memory related errors( didn't know that at first) i made many tests including lots of kX tray icon closing... could that have an impact on driver ?

thx

ps. sorry for my english im polish
pss. i forgot to mention what is my card... i use audigy2zs its detected as sb0350

sorry for double post

well im sorry for double post but i did some tests... ive put back my bad 256mb stick and i don't lose sound anymore and i don't get high pitched sound. ive decided to do that cause many people say that more ram can fix the problem... heres my question - does it really have to be more memory or maybe its about more sticks ?? remember people that nforce2 chipsets have dual channel so maybe by putting in 3 sticks of memory sound gets fixed cause of dual channel not being used?? if my comp keeps crashing with this stick ima throw it out and try moving 2 sticks to banks that don't make dual channel. if this helps i guess itll work for more people... but i don't know maybe someone uses nforce2 with one 1gb ram stick and can share opinions ??

cheers

Here's an update on my earlier post.

I've change memory configurations to 2x 256 + 512, and now to 2x 512, and later dropped the latencies down. The beep persisted through all these hardware changes. I've also switched to another graphics card (and i'll soon change again).

I appears i'll be stuck with the beep untill it gets fixed, or i upgrade either motherboard to something non-Via, or replace the SB-Live!.

I did however notice something peculiar yesterday when i tried something called ABX'ing (See this thread). When i click one of the buttons to play back either the A, B, X or Y sounds, i can hear the actual sound for an estimated 50-100ms before i get the beep. Also when stopping the sound it fades out (i think this is done through directsound), i hear a low (~100hz) hum through the beep, and the volume of the beep fades with the fadeout.

If this is interesting enough to persue i can try to record some test tones whilst invoking the beep to measure the exact latency, and possibly fiddle with some settings to see if that changes anything.

Another thing i've noticed is that the frequency of the beep seems to be related to the samplerate of the sound being played back that invoked it, it's volume varies seemingly randomly, and there seem slight changes in it's tone (not frequency), too, but i'm not 100% sure that.

Last thing: I moved thebeep.zip from my original post to http://hbg.serveftp.com/pub/thebeep.zip My apolies if this has hindered investigation of this bug.

I guess that this is the same problem I have, I sometimes loose my sound, and some other times I just get a high pitched beep when trying to play something. Mostly just loosing all sound though. But I found something out: It only affects DirectSound for me, I'm using Kernel Streaming in foobar and because of this it took some while for me to notice that I had this problem, since I don't use much other software that playback sound.

Anyway, using Directsound output: Silence or sometimes a contant tone. Kernel Streaming: Everything works just nicely. Might that help?

Athlon XP 2500+@3200+, 1280MB DDR PC3200, Asus A7N8X Deluxe v2.0 (nForce 2), ATi Radeon 9600Pro, Windows XP SP2+.

I have experienced this problem even when using Kernel Streaming in foobar2000 (Kernel Streaming bypasses kmixer), so I guess it's sheer luck that you didn't experience this problem in foobar2000.

I did not read all posts in this thread, but I have same bug on my Audigy1 + nForce2 system and my 'solution' is running dxdiag when beep occur and moving slider 'Hardware acceleration' and clicking Test button. After 3 or 4 attempts sound is raising from the dead.

It used to happen to me on my old computer, after I upgraded my nForce2 drivers to AndyR's latest remix, it started happening. Solution I use is to continually cllick around on the time bar while a song is playing and eventually after like 8 seconds it'll work again

I've tried now, and it's not Kernel Streaming, it's because I'm using the HQ output, as I can see movies in MPC if I use that there as well. Atleast I think it's because of that :P

And btw, I too use a mix of the newest betas for my Nforce 2, but what driver there could be the cause? A question for you other folks, do you still use Soundstorm?

I have SB audigy 2 platinum Ex soundcard and sometimes (i diddn´t noticed what it depend on) big noise occures. Restart PC always helps, but I found better help. I unplug and plug again the firewire cabel from my External box of soundcard and the noise disapears. I have problems with cabels of my soundcard from the beggining.

I have the exact problem (using 3538J). Sound quality is superb with Kx drivers (Creative drivers destroy music enyojment), but after some minutes of playback, constant beep or no sound. Restart helps, but then after some time iz happens again.
I tried moving Audigy 2 (normal) to different slot, same thing.

Help needed.
COMP: Nforce 2, Audigy 2 (0240), GeForce 6600, Win2000 SP4, 1GB RAM,.....

Looking forward for Kx driver development, bugless of course.

EDIT: Just read the thread, and a fix works (enable, disable device stuff), but why does this happen in the first place with no other PCI devices installed (roots of annoyance)?
