No sound when playing MIDI files
I have the lastest drivers, but I'm afraid I'm very new to the KX Project drivers. Most likely I'm doing something wrong. There is no audio while playing MIDI files unless I choose Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth as my MIDI Music playback default device. Now under DXDIAG I get sound on every choice except anything that says KX Synth. I'm running Windows XP
Thanks in advance Dwayne |

You have to load a soundfont file first. Just find the GM/GS soundfonts you kan find on the original creative cd and load one...

You can also find a free GM soundfont set to download that is supposed to be better quality here:

Thanks a whole bunch. You were right. After I loaded a soundfont, everything was okay. Well sort of.. I'm afraid I am so very "vanilla" right now where this whole MIDI/Soundfont thing is concerned. You see, I have some Christmas songs that are MIDI files. They sound great when I use the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. I tried loading "A" soundfont , and even multiple soundfonts from the Creative CD, but the Christmas MIDI files do not sound right. ( I chose KX Synth, of course) The Instruments being used to play the tune are so very "off". I'm sure it is a matter of loading the correct combination of soundfonts, or some large soundfont like the one you suggested earlier. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong this time?
![]() P.S. I am on Dialup, so downloading a 40 to 80 meg soundfont would be a , shall we say, task.. LOL Maybe I will have to end up doing that. There is some sort of pack file that apparantly has to be downloaded and installed. What is that for? We can't just load the soundfont without having to run some executable file? Thanks guys for the trouble I know this must be. Dwayne |
