asio crackles and crashes

Hello,

kx 3538m is really great! But I got the following problems with its asio driver:
While working on my music projects i'll often get crackling sounds after some minutes followed by a "little" asio crash.
That means I have to change the sync mode and everything is fine again - just for a few minutes. It is not a latency related problem, because it happens with every latency that I choose. The cpu load increases a lot for less than a half second. None of my VST-plugins causes that much cpu load. Usually I can work even on big projects at around 8 ms latency with no problems.

Some facts about my actual system: AM2 mainboard, amd athlon 64 x2 5200+, 2GB Ram DDR2, Audigy 2ZS, KX 3538m, WinXP Pro SP2
On my old system the same things happend. This was a Athlon XP 1800+ with 1GB Ram DDR and 3538m too.

Can anyone help me to find out the reason of this problem? Is it kx or WinXP related?

System Specs

Quite similar problem with 3534f on XP

I'm afraid that won't help you,
but I have a similar crackling problem:

When I load a session in Adobe Audition 2.0
(i.e. 3 tracks - recorded in ASIO - 48kHz - 32bit - Duration: 5mins)
and play it, I have to face..

1.) a crackling/popping sound until
2.) it's kind of "freezing" more and more - means the tempo divides into half, quarter, eighth etc.
until it gets stuck almost completely, which sounds terrible - as you can imagine..
After pushing the "Pause"-Button twice - playback continues to normal tempo (!) until the next sko weird stuttering..

So I have to play through the 5mins, always preparing to push the "Pause"-Button twice, which is no fun at all.
However - after going through that - I start the Playback from the beginning, and the whole session works just fine.

Why this indispensable first "test run"?

THX for thoughts..

I found out that the problem depends on the asio sync mode. Before I only used the 10k2 modes. Now I use "Map/Timer/Event" and there are no errors at all. Even @ 4ms (!).

Could anyone please explain the difference between the 10k1 and 10k2 sync modes? Thanks.
