KX/PCTV .DLL conflict
Hi, I seem to be in some company with my PCTV and kx problems, though I can't find a solution or reply to previous threads.
It seems that some versions of PCTV media centre use a .dll file with the same name (or maybe just a different version) as kx uses. After installing KX, PCTV silently stops working. After reinstalling PCTV, I receive a message that KX Mixer cannot start because of MSVCRTD.DLL.
I hope there is an easy work around this, I have been using KX for many years now with no complaints. Would a simple name-change be enough in the next version? perhaps a patch to apply this to the existing version?
Thanks,
Dougie

Well, if it is really msvcrtd.dll problem - then it could be no simple solution...
(this is known as a "dll hell" stuff)
"PCTV" - if I’m not mistaken it is something from "Pinnacle", is it?
It’s quite strange to see they sell a product with debug versions of software
(It is forgivable for non-commercial kX... but for commercial thingy... oh..)
Well, anyway - if it is msvcrtd.dll then no one can simply rename it - even its provider (MSFT) - because it is "C run-time library (debug)" dll.
The only workaround I can see is if this PCTV software is running from its own folder/directory (for example /Program Files/bla-bla/) - (or at least those files that need the dll) - you can move their msvcrtd from system32 to the folder their files reside. (and leave kX's one in the system folder as all kX files are running from there).
Btw. another strange thing is that the version of the dll shipped with kX is a sort of 'gold' version - it should be compatible (well, 'almost' compatible) with any MS C/C++ compiler came out for the last 10 years. So I fear to imagine what version comes with PCTV (and therefore what development system they use...)

Yes, it's Pinnacle. For what seemed to me to be an established company, the software which comes with it is pretty shaky.

Thanks for that, I'll try the above. It seems now that even after reinstalling PCTV, it fails to work but kx mixer works again... kx wouldn't be reinstalling a missing file would it? Maybe I'll have to find out more specifically what is being installed. If the DLL is a debug library then maybe Pinnacle can help me get some information out PCTV. If nothing else, their support is quite good.
I'll post back with anything new

For future reference, the reason PCTV didn't work after uninstalling KX, was because I didn't uninstall it properly. I had to reinstall the project, then uninstall driver before uninstalling the project.
I'll probably wait until I have internet at home again, or until I really need KX before I try to get the two working together.
