Well, it seems this problem is moving forward to solution. I've figured out a working config with a standart 3538m driver. Audio input working (noisy). I'll message to Eugene with all the details.

I have two issues:
1) I cannot get my microphone input to work - even just coming through my speakers. I tried following instructions from the FAQ, but I don't have an AC97 button on my main mixer page. I have tried reinitializing the DSP and setting everythign to default, but to no avail.
2) The subwoofer output only works if Bass Redirection is turned on. When I click 'Use Subwoofer output' nothing happens, but if I turn on bass redirection, then I can hear bass at the frequency range I specified.
3) Unless I keep my buffer at zero (from default of 256kb), I get lots of noise and static after resuming from hibernation.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

freeze issue: please try http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/kx3538m-070225.bin
download, rename into kx.sys and place to windows/system32
reboot
this might fix your issues
if yes, let me know

Eugene,
Thanks! Yes this has solved the freeze up however there are no analog inputs. I guess you already know that. Is there still hope?

Well guys you should check this more thouroughly, coz' I do have Mic input working fine. Try to reinitialise DSP or first create a new scheme SRC[Line2\Mic2 In] > Mixer > k2Lt

OK
1. How do you reinitialise?
2. I can't load an ADC-- it says card does not support AC97
3. I see mic2/line2 in an SRC--- what physical jacks do they use
I have a LIVE 5.1

1. Are we speaking about Audigy2ZS notebook? I am.
2. Reinitialising DSP = right-click on DSP, 'reinitialise DSP'. Or you can clear it and build routing from scratch.
3. I dunno what ADC is, and I get this error too.
4. Ehm, there's only 1 input on my A2ZSnb :-)

1. yes of course
2. done that already
3. ADC is the ProFex plugin for AC 97
4. If you also get this error when loading ADC how can you be getting AC97 support?
I had to replace the kx.sys file with another one in order to prevent freeze up of the computer and this disables the analog inputs for the time being.

you need to unload kxmixer, disable the device in the devman, and only after that unplug the card. plug-in requires the same steps in reversed order. I plan no surprise removal support

Do not use ADC, use SRC plugins, or prolog with Line2/Mic2 (as Estarriol told you). ADC is for AC97 inputs and your card does not have an AC97 codec (it uses the i2c codec).

Now how does one choose if the input is mic or line as you can with ADC?

is there any difference in using the mic input vs the line in input? i wanted to use this in the carpc environment and have my phone audio come out through my speakers while using the mic for my voice. is there any builtin echo cancellation or is that going to be a problem

Well troubles again. I got "m" installed for the A2ZSNB by using the alternate kx.sys file provided by Eugene. When I loaded the DSP configuration that I use with my 5.1 card on my desk top machchine the sound had lots of crackles, snaps & pops. I couldn't get it to stop. In frustration I uninstalled "m" and reinstalled "l". Low and behold still snaps, crackles and pops. I cleared the DSP and rebuilt my setup from scratch and all seems well however I can no longer get "m" to install without freezing. I've tried everything. Could someone be so kind as to give me in detail the step by step process to install "m" and when to swap out the alternate kx.sys file and exactly which folder to put it in.
Thanks
John

I would guess that dj_stick's instructions for installing 3538h would work for this as well.
i.e.
With 3538m, install the applications but do not install the drivers. Replace the kx.sys file in the 3538 install directory (usually C:\Program Files\kX Project\3538\) with the updated one. Run the setup file from the 3538 install directory to install the drivers.

Russ,
Thanks for reply. Eugene says to put the new KX.sys file in the winnt/system32 folder though?

When you install the drivers using the setup file from the install directory, it should copy the files to the correct place.

So Russ what your saying is to put the kx.sys file in C:\Program Files\kX Project\3538\) and then when I install the drivers it will take this and place it were it needs to be.

Yes. This is basically the same instructions the Eugene gave:
Quote:
for each new .sys file in the archive do the following:
copy it to c:\program files\...
rename into 'kx.sys'
re-run kxsetup from c:\program files\...
check if this fixes the issue
try the next file
---
|
i.e. (with a new install of 3538m).
Run 'kxdrv3538m-full.exe'. Place a check in the option box to install 'kX Project Audio Driver (3538)', and any other options that you want installed.
Complete the install of the applications, but when asked, do not install the driver.
Goto the applications directory where 3538m was installed (i.e. C:\Program Files\kX Project\3538\), and backup the original kx.sys, and replace it with the updated one (renamed to kx.sys).
Run the 'kxsetup.exe' that is in the above directory and install the drivers. Reboot only when prompted to do so by kX.

On my system, 'kx.sys' is in the 'Windows\System32\Drivers' folder (not 'Windows\System32'), so you might want to check to be sure that you do not have different versions of the file in both places (so that you can be sure that WIndows is using the correct version).
i.e.
Quit kxmixer.
Search 'Windows' and it's subfolders for 'kx.sys', and delete all that are found.
Run 'kxsetup.exe' with new the kx.sys (let it put it where it is supposed to be).

 Russ,
Right you are. I remember that I discovered that myself the first time but had since forgotten. That's what happens when you get old. That did it.

With that latest kx.sys file I had it working, whereas before it froze during boot. I have analog inputs and things seem to work. Awesome job, Eugene! I'm wondering though: As I was clearing the DSP I was reading about using the k2lt plugin for output since it takes less space. Worked nicely, but I noticed the lack of a master volume. I'm using a gainHQ plugin to control it right now for testing, but I'm wondering: Is there really no analog volume control on this card? The regular epilog output seems to adjust all output levels digitally too. Doesn't this reduce output quality?
PS: The Mic/Line recording source box is mixed up. I get a low level stereo recording (i.e. from the line input) when I select "Mic", and I get a high level mono recording (i.e. from the mic input) when I select "Line".
