Win ME install Error Message with .3530
Hi,
When using my Windows ME and attempting an install of the new .3530 Beta, I get an error message indicating that the "gold Version" of Windows 98 is not supported.
Which would be fine if Iwas running win 98, but on Win ME, I don't think this mesage should be happening.
The latest stable release runs fine .3528 is great !
Sorry if this has been reported and I just missed it.
Dave

well, this issue was reported to have been solved
if it still happens (with 3531 or 3530), please download the 'monitor' ( http://kxdev.narod.ru)
launch it and start 'setup.exe' (or kx353x-update.exe)
post any information displayed by the monitor

according to the log file, the Windows reports its version incorrectly
for -true- windows me it should report [1 4 90]
are you sure you are using the -final- me? [not 'hacked' one]?

I have the same problem with .3531
Downloaded .3528 and installed that successfully.
I have just updated from 98 original to ME (specifically
to try these drivers with FLstudio). I wonder if the fact
that I installed ME as an update to an existing 98
installation is relevant - would the same apply to
anyone else having the problem?

Indeed, I did exactly the same yesterday, same problem.
3528 runs without any problems, though.
My copies of windows are fully liscenced, too.

3529 and later releases perform an additional check for win98se / winme
according to Microsoft specification, Windows Millenium should return 1 4 90, not 1 4 10
you can easily bypass the check by running kxsetup.exe manually
[the check is implemented in setup.exe, but not in kxsetup.exe]

for all Windows Millenium users:
please download and execute 'http://www.kxproject.com/setup2.exe' file
and post the information displayed by the test application

On my ME system setup reports 1 4 10 1 4 10 156 148
The system properties page shows 4.90.3000, and I also
found the correct version string in the registry.
Looks like a bug in the Windows routine that is being called.
Could not find anything about this problem on usenet or the
web, although I would have thought other applications would
hit it.

same here
i'm having the exact same problems. my winME came pre-installed on my computer, so it's the final release version, and i haven't updated from anything to it ......
the setup2.exe reports
OS Version [1 4 10 ; 1 4 10 ; 156 148]
but my system properties (from control panel) reports 4.90.3000
.....wondering why it could be reporting the wrong version number for so many of us. 3528 is still working more than fine though.

the setup2.exe program uses the -exact- source code published by Microsoft on their site (msdn.microsoft.com) that should be used for OS detection

not accusing you of bad coding (i mean hey, we all know what buggy a$$holes micro$oft can be), but the normal setup does function incorrectly, for whatever reason.
on a brighter note, i was able to install 3521 by just doing the update driver kx.ini method, so i'm happy ... looks incredible so far, thanks!

well, the best solution might be searching the web for any widely-known issues related to Millenium version detection
(let's start from msdn.microsoft.com )
