I just wanna check if everything is allright !
I have an Intel pentium 4 2.0 Ghz processor...with an Intel D845GBV Mobo
an IBM Deskstar 60 GB 7200 RPM
256 MB of DDR 266 Ram
I just bought a MSI GeForce 4 MX440 card...with 64 MB memory
I set up my AGP aperature size to 128 MB
and I scored 5949 on 3dMark 2001SE
Is That normal ?...am using detonator 41.03 drivers...I also have a problem as my new card seems to slow down my boot time by about 10 seconds....and it flickers on the windows XP pro screen (the one when the slider moves ) ...my old GeForce 2 MX200 didnt do that....didnt slow down my boot and didnt flicker
Is that an hardware issue...or is just the driver version ?
I also wanna learn how could I enable fast writes ???!!
thanx alot for ur help

That sounds about right.
It sounds about right for that system, although I bet you could sqeeze about 400-500 points out of it with some power tweaking. The problem is I don't think it's really worth it for you to tweak for those extra points, your bottle-neck is your video card BIG TIME!
The rest of your system sounds pretty sweet, but the G4 MX440 ain't that hot of a video card. It's not really a G4, it's a whole lot more like a G2-1/2.
I'd highly recomend you look into either a GF4 ti4200 or a 9700 in a few months when the price goes down....but even a GF3 in that system would score a whole lot better on 3dm2k1se!
Blue right now will blow about 6000 in 3dm2k1se, Bubbles will crack 8000 without breaking a sweat. With my GF3 in Bubbles she'll score only around 7200, but she games a lot better than with the 8500 in. (See my "gay-assed sig" if'n that makes no sense to ya. )

You just got that card? then take it back, get a 8500 or GF3 or GF4
Just stay away from MX cards you wont be sorry. and if you cant afford a good
card right now, then wait till you can
Besides that system deserves better
Man i hate to see peeps get riped off.
Hope you can return it man
Good luck

Well, yeah.
I just didn't want to depress him if'n he doesn't have the return option, but you speak rightly. (And I gotta admit you said it very kindly too. )

I feel Dumb :(
I had the chance to get an hercules 3d prophet 8500LE 128 MB instead of this card....I had the money...but I prefered Nvidia as I was afraid of bugs and stuff like that..as I heard that ATI's drivers are not good....anyway I dont have much choices here in Egypt
PC market is not that good....no other options where possible....besides that returning it back also is a tough job...heheheheh
Anyway I think I'll sell it and go for the 8500 LE
any objections about the 8500 card ?
any bugs ?
thanx guys for ur replies

lol: dont feel dumb man ive had my share of bad cards. Why? because i didnt
do my homework,i just walked in the store and picked up the cheapest i could find..
i didnt know much about hardware back then and still dont. but after two or three
bad purchases i said enough is enough. now i will not buy any hardware untill i spend
at least a full day looking for reviews, or going to web sites like this and asking questions. so do your homework first before you open your wallet, youl save yourself
a lot of trouble
Now the 8500 is a great card, must bugs a fixed with driver updates or game patches
i wouldnt worry to much bout that. also i dont have one, im just going on what ive heard.
Do this, go to http://www.google.com or http://www.mamma.com and search for reviews... read all you can about this card, compare this card with other 8500s... if you like what you see
then buy it. Also post another message in the ATI Card forum and ask if this card is a good buy (3d prophet 8500LE 128 MB )
And keep your head up.. that system is going to rock with the right card

HAHAH
You wasted your money kid.....Shoulda bought the Ti series because the price difference is so little, and you would gain close to 1000+ 3dmark points too...........that's just off of a stock Ti card too......

I did My exams..hehehe :)
yeah I know...I've spent a whole week reading benchmarks....I knew that the 8500 was a better card than mine....but i was afraid only of the bugs and of ATI's drivers.
anyway about having a Ti series card...that costs here about 300 $ which is a fortune in our country...hehehhe
something like half the salary of a minister in the government...so the difference in price is very big....not like prices in the states
as the geforce 4 MX 440 costs only about 70 $...see the difference ?
anyway..I'll consider having an ATI card next time
and guys....I need a good tweaking tool for my nvidia card ??
thanx alot guys for ur help

Here tweak away http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/
But watch out for that overclocking option, you dont want to fry your card
if you do want to overclock ask or find out about it for that card.
Have you considered overclocking you CPU? Now theres something that will
give you higher 3dmark scores, even with your lowly Gf4 MX
Also do your homework if you do consider overclocking.
And one last thing i will not be responsible for any damage to your system for this advise. so you do it at your own risk
Good luck
Opps almost forgot, overclocking voids your warranties

~6000 with that system (especially video card) is excellent... overclock it and you'll get into gf3 vanilla territory.

you could have a card like mine for a little over 100 dollars and I got 11,477 for my best score w/ a little tweeking-- you won't be spending much more than what you did and you will love the way your games look on a GF4ti4200. I got mine at NewEgg because thay have free shippping and a good return policy.
