Alrighty then.
Hmmm....off the top-o-me-head...
1Ghz Celery@1.13, TUSLC-2, 320Mb, 98se, Abit Silura GF2 T400 (MX400 w/tv-out) 29.41's without nView 240/420, default viddy settings.
3dm2k1se=2997
PIII800@928, CUSLC-2, 512MB, 98se, GF3 (240/530) 29.41's without nView (Yes, I hate nView!), default viddy settings.
3dm2k1se=5601
The big thing for me with the 29.41 set is the openGL, VERY zippy. I gotta start keeping track of my DroneZ scores....

Change that to a PIII800@952, and make it 5699 for my 3dm2k1se score.
(Hey it might not be much, but I was stuck behind 928Mhz for the longest damned time on my mobo!!! I finally got the CPU voltage right at boot. )

I have basiclly the same setup as Digitalwanderer and get about the same scores(ranging from 5850 to 6200).
Athlon or Pentium is not much of a difference but CPU speed is what does the trick.
For Example:
On excactly the same setup i have now i had a P3 733 and my scores were around 5500
but when i went to the 1ghz P3 my scores went up about 600-700 points.
Now you can imagine what happens when u go to a P4 2 GHZ (9 to 10 thousand points).
All you have to do is run a benchmark and when you compare your score look at all the other scores and what CPUs they use.
Ive seen guys with a P4 get better scores than me using a GF2 .

with a gf3 @ ti500 speeds, it would take a clawhammer at 2.5ghz or a p4 at 5ghz to get 9000. after about 7500, the video card is the major bottleneck.

CPU ceiling.
What would you suggest as my target upgrade CPU for Bubbles? She has a CUSL2-C, but I was thinking of swapping Blue's TUSL2-C with her and going for a celeron 1.4....or is that overkill? (Or I'll be swapping little Z into Blue when I get a new viddy card for Bubbles, but I figure the same question applies either way.)
I'm holding off on mobo upgrading for a while...hopefully for another whole generational jump in them. I still got room to upgrade these boxes. While Blue might not game quite as well as Bubbles with her GF2 MX400, methinks the days of that viddy card are quickly coming to an end and with a new card that's at least the equivalent of my GF3 I think I'll have quite enough power to game until Doom3 comes out.
Seriously, I don't NEED to break 10K on 3dm2k1se. I was enjoying the hell out of most of the games I had when I was barely breaking 3K...at 5866 this thing is a freaking wonderbox to me and it still has room to be improved thru a cheap CPU upgrade! (And on a funny/weird sidenote: The CPU in there I actually paid LESS for last year! That's right, a PIII800e (100Mhz FSB) is now $143 shipped off of pricewatch (well, it was late last night at least.) and I only paid $120 shipped. I just thought it was a weird/funny thing. )

can you fellows get me started on improving my 3dMark?
hey cats ...
I was wondering whether any of you might give me a couple links to get me started on slowly but surely improving my 3dMark score ... I have a gf4-4200 and I am getting 7319 with the stock settings. Is that about right? Absolutely new to this .... last pc was a 486 when I was in university ;-)

tried oc a little bit last nite
noticing that with max resolution and detail in jedi knight 2 i can still slow down a bit, i tried a modest o/c of 275/550 and score 10031 or something. neet. I think that's as far as I am going to push it.
note to those of you with kt333 mobos ... you can do the more aggressive ram timings, but cas2.5->2 is the one timing that certainly crashed me ... this got me a good part of the 3dMark push.
anyhow i highly recommend http://www.amdmb.com ... good site recommended by one of the members here.
