Expected 3DMark2003 scores

A few people have asked me why their score is low or if the score they get is right for their system. I cant answer all those individual cases but I want to share some results we observe in our benchmarking labs. (Remember these numbers are directly from ATI)

Use these ONLY as a guide and have fun comparing:

P4 - 3.06 GHz i850e
1GB PC 1066

Defaults 3DMark settings, CATALYST control panel on performance setting

Radeon 9700: 4169
Radeon 9500 Pro: 3571

I'm at 4056 with a 9500pro and a 2100xp, mind you this is with an overclocked system.

Ouff, I feel much better now, I thought my score really sucked, but it isn't to bad for a 2100+, R8500 128MB. I scored 1217 with Cat 3.0 and 1227 with Cat 3.1.

They designed it this time to be dependant on the Video Card MUCH more than previous versions, which I think is a good thing since it's a video benchmark, not a total system benchmark. Your scores will be a little higher with a faster processor, but not as big of a jump as you saw in previous versions.

From the looks of Mr. Cat. maker if I got a faster processor and MB I can expect about 300 marks increase. Um, whoo? Sure makes me want to go aut and buy a shiny new mb... Or not.

BTW fast writes seems to give me about 100 marks... Thogh in actual games I get nothing... Unreal2 is a little less stable.

1405 for a stock 8500LE 128......I think I am happy with it, just wish I could see the nature section!! Hopefully the prices will drop soon so I can get a better card.
