x64 compatibility

Hello Awomo admin, thank you for the opportunity to participate in this beta test, it is highly appreciated and I am indeed well and properly excited.

The reason I posted this thread is I just downloaded the AWOMO plug in tonight and was disappointed to find that it is intended for x86 operating systems and not x64 based ones. As I use Windows Vista x64, this would mean I would have to buy another operating system such as Vista 32 bit in order to run Awomo, unless there is a version of the plug in that is 64bit. Any assistance and feedback will once again be greatly appreciated.

Re: x64 compatibility

64 support is currently on the (ever expanding) to do list and we will send a mail out when an appropriate version is available. Meanwhile, as an Elite Ops member, we will be asking for your advice and opinion on a variety of matters so you can still influence the project even without being involved in the optimising.

Thanks for your patience.

I was wondering the same deal earlier. I do hope that you get it sorted soon.

I will deal with AWOMO later, a bit busy now, but I only have Vista64, I have windows 32bit on my netbook, but that can't play almost any modern game (GMA 945)

Theoretically you wouldn't have to buy a new OS, Just install the x86 version instead of the x64. Not that I think it's a real solution. I also have Vista x64, and can't run AWOMO.

For the people who're complaining about the Intel integrated chipsets, why not try the games? From what I've seen, what's being offered right now are pretty old games, which might run. If I feel really brave, I might try to run the games on my Fujitsu P1510D, with a GMA 900. Main problem there is actually the lack of RAM (512MB installed) more than the graphics card, in my experience. That and the awful Intel drivers.

(For the record, the games I played on the P1510D are City of Heroes and Trackmania Nations. CoH ran okay with minimal graphics for indoor missions and at 5fps in some outdoor areas, but area load times could be over 10 minutes, making it unplayable. Trackmania Nations ran good enough for me, but unfortunately needed different drivers from the drivers that ran City of Heroes.)

Theoretically,

Actually what happens is that you have a single key that works with either 32bit or 64bit. You pick the version your going to use, you cannot run both at the same time without microsoft identifying that your technically running 2 different copies of vista using a single cd key.

Unfortunately my main machines are also plagued by the x64 limitation. While initially i was a little confused by the reasons, i also look at it from a different perspective, could we be ending up with a native 64bit client then? Wouldn't that be swell. (my hopes are up)

Until then, I'm attempting to prepare a machine right now that should be able to run it with vista 32bit. Not nearly as good as modern day machines but it should do.

Re: x64 compatibility

OK, I have HyperOS and a mix of XP and Vista, both in 32 and 64 bit versions.

I just installed and started the D/L for "Tomb Raider Legend" in a Vista 32 bit partition, and it says 11 Hrs+ to D/L ? Is this correct, OR, should I have clicked on LAUNCH instead?

Also, you guys with 64 bit. Shouldn't you be able to install the 32 bit version WITHOUT entering the KEY, and activating? Wouldn't that still allow you to run the 32 bit version for 90 days or so without having to activate?

I'm also running Vista 64 bit as my primary OS and I need support for it.

I also have Vista 32 bit installed and I can reboot to it to do some testing but it would be best if I did not have to.

"This program Can Only be Installed On Versions of Windows Designed for the Following Processor Architectutres

X86"

This is the massage screen i receive directly after i click the run program..So literally nothing installs.

I emailed them Yesterday..then shortly afterwards found the OS RRequired answer in the FAQ's.

Besides i don't intend to install the 32 bit os just for this at this time.To much hassle.

Hi everyone, we're well aware of the GRRRRRRRRRRR! factor that the Plug-In is 32-bit Windows XP / Vista only. It's definitely on the list to have 64-bit compatibility, along with the ability to move the cache location to the place of your choice (currently not possible).

As soon as the team has the resource, they'll be looking to get 64-bit support engaged, but we're a while off yet I'm afraid.

another one for x64 here.
I didn't see these forums here before, so I emailed craig about it. But seems they are already doing the best they can to get support for x64 out. So there is nothing else to do and wait, and in the mean time we can do:

Ok, before I install a 32 bit Windows OS, I'll let you folks (AWOMO) call the ball for me - so do you want to see Vista 32 or XP Pro 32bit?

HyperOS sounds like a nice product. I might check it out. I do have XP x86 installed as dual boot, but I have to reboot to it, and Vista x64 is my main OS. Might do that, but HyperOS sounds like a much better solution. How well does it work in practice? Also, is it possible to convert an existing dual-boot configuration to it?

You could do it for 120 days with the original Vista (if you extended it at just the right time), and 30 with SP1, IIRC. But again, without something like HyperOS that's not very comfortable to use.

Can you tell me some more about HyperOS 2009? I couldn't find any review of it, and there's no demo for download. Mainly I'd like to know if it's really possible to switch between several OS's while keeping their state, i.e., letting me switch from Vista to XP to run AWOMO games, then switch back and continue with what I was doing before.

Re: x64 compatibility

With HOS it's just as simple as doing a re-boot. HOS just re-directs the re-boot to any system that you select in the "My Other Computers" GUI that HOS installs.

It's a bit more involved than that 'under the hood', but for basic operation that's how it works.

When you switch OSs, it does so as a re-boot, so you can't go back to an OS that was 'doing something" like a rendering video or anything.

HOS works for any OS from 2000 forward, and with 32 and 64 bit versions of all of them.

Ah, okay, that's not as good as I'd hoped. Now, if they allowed to put one OS into hybernation and boot the other one, then switch back, that would have been great. The hassle is the reboots. I hate having to close everything and then reopen everything.

Although this thread is about 64-bit, the mention of moving the cache file prompts this question:

I have a system that I can boot into both XP and Vista. The OSes are on different physical HDDs and I select the Boot drive from BIOS. So, in my testing, I could test under BOTH XP 32-bit and Vista 32-bit, IF I did not have to completely download the files all over again and simply copied the contents to the cache location for either OS. OR....if I could direct the system to LOCATE where the cache files are, that would be even better.

Any luck getting something along this line done?

Re: x64 compatibility

While I use Vista x64, I'll see what I can do about installing a 32 bit OS on another part. over the next couple of days.

Can't wait to test this out. Thanks for the invite.

Re: x64 compatibility

Swimtech - you can call your own ball as it were - Vista or XP Pro 32-bit, either!
Dyre Straits - I think the only way to do this will be to copy the contents of the cache to the other physical drive. So for example, if you d/l TRL on Vista, then switch to XP, start the download, locate the XP cache and copy over the full cache files from your Vista AWOMO cache to the XP AWOMO cache.
Vikingod and others - looking forward to you guys being able to participate soon. With all these +1 x64 votes I'll soon be able to level up...

Yes, I kind of figured that the way this GTK works, it might have to be done by copying everything over to the other HDD. Almost all my other games, regardless of where they're installed, I can simply create a Desktop Icon and then point to where the game is installed. Then run the game from either OS. Not all of them work, but most seem to do just fine.
