Re: x64 compatibility

Thanks for all the feedback AWOMO staff and I'm really looking forward to the beta 64bit client so we can get to testing but I'd also like to apologize for not having installed a 32bit os and started testing it out yet, just moved back to my hometown after a really long time so its been hectic and all so I haven't really had time to sit down and do some optimizing coz when I do it I wanna do it good, btw a special request, I heard from Mousey that awomo's getting some new games, can we please get an fps and can the system save standings so we can play with each other (beta testers) for those of us who love fps?

TRL is a cool game and so is Rome: Total War but I think a good fps would make more people, even people with busy schedules pop in more, especially if there were some kind of online standings/ranking system available.

OK, XP Pro 32bit SP3 is on, configured like Dyre's on separate drives too, except my other OS (dual booting) is Vista64 Ultimate SP1.

Hmmm, might rather just put a shortcut in Vista 64 to point to the software in XP and work out of 1 cache for both OS's - to see if that works - maybe even using different compatability settings in the Vista64 environment. The highways would be cloverleafing...

Or maybe I'm just an idiot for thinking this.

Re: x64 compatibility

I tried this too last evening - the plugin worked behind our firewall to enable my login. Now to see if it'll download a game- watch for an edit here - I was curious too 'cause of kn00tcn's post...

Edit: OMG, DL speed as reported by the Awomo web page plugin topped at 4.9MB/sec!!! Rome TW from starting the download to launch taking less than 10 minutes.

Re: x64 compatibility

Hi, I'm wondering the same as MIG-31.
I have Vista x64 too, so I'm really looking forward to the x64 version of AWOMO.
This is a GREAT concept! I loving it even before I've tried it :P

When it's all ready to go with my x64 system, I will do my best to participate as much
as I can. Btw, in the future I agree that first-person shooter games would be very
tempting for a lot of people

Woah woah woah i never said that lol
I said that Skimpy pointed out to me there's some new games coming when these 2 are optimised and the 64 bit client's out bladeda.
Some FPS Games would be pretty cool to test though

Re: x64 compatibility

Hi all, x64 still a ways off :-(

New games will come when we've really put the two in there already through the meat grinder. We're getting there... The more people who play, the quicker we can get new games in.

There are a LOT of games coming for the 'proper' launch - in the hundreds, not the ones and twos...

Re: x64 compatibility

Im still patiently drumming my fingers on my desk and visiting the AWOMO site in the hope that 64-bit version has appeared.

In the meantime I guess the number of people waiting with me has given some interesting feedback to game developers and the AWOMO team on the number of people now running x64.

I think the availability of cheap DDR2 has had a huge effect on x64 takeup, of course the Athlon 64 started it all for home computers but once people realised that DDR2 was ridiculously cheap and they need 64 bit addressing to access all 4Gb or more it all it was always going to happen.

Anyone else remember paying £120 for their first CD-ROM and 4Mb (yes Mb!) memory expansion back in the good old days?

I agree, that's why when recently I ordered my PC I got 8GB instead of say 2.

I paid £200 for half a megabyte of memory for my ST back in 1988. Like half the price of a new ST system.

What? Why are you trying to recruit more people in at 32 bit level?
If you make x64 a top priority people will be flooding in to join because that's the standard now. Come on man, common sense
