How do I play a Sub file?

I downloaded a torrent dvd file and i'm having trouble playing the subtitles as the movie is a foreign one. The cd folder contains-

-The Video clip which I can play fine with windows media player (no subtitles show)
-An IDX File (displayed by quicktime icon)
-Thumbs file
-WinRar File

I extracted the winrar file to get a SUB file. I was hoping someone could explain to me how to play the video file while getting the subtitles. I have a feeling this is a no brainer that just keeps eluding me. Thanks

There is a program called vobsub that you could try to figure out. Or Open up bsplayer, load the movie, then click on the subtitles button and browse to them.

vobsub

hi
I tried out vobsub with virtualdub and followed the guide on videohelp.
I managed to display subtitles from a downloaded sub.file.
but when i tried saving file as AVI or segmented AVI, the file size was humongous. from original 300MB to over 20GB.
Is there any way to incorporate the sub.file into the AVI once, and just play it whenever?
I'm new to this so appreciate some layman advice
thanks very much!
