Radeon 9700 and Video Editing
Hi,
Has anyone worked out the best settings in Rage 3D Tweak to optimize a Radeon 9700 Pro for video editing in Adobe Premiere 6.5 or Premiere Pro? Are there 3D settings that should be turned off or down and 2D settings that should be tweaked? Thanks!
Torkel

I wouldn't think that driver settings would have too much of an effect on video editing with Premiere. The most important factors are going to be CPU, RAM, harddrive speed, and harddrive space. I don't think your video card has too much to do with it (unless you have an All-in-Wonder and you're using it for video capture, which is something different altogether).

Just to confirm what BRC64 said, video editing has very little to do with the card as such, as long as the video drivers are installed correctly along with any necessary codecs, conversions and post processing effects in any of the video editing applications you may be using are primarily down to your CPU, with the ram and system FSB playing a factor in speeds. A nice fast defragmented hard drive or Raid with alot of free room will certainly also be beneficial.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. My system uses Open GL drivers for real time display during preview and scrubbing the timeline. Since Open GL is processed by the video card, I thought that certain settings might help keep more things in real time (layers, effects, transitions, etc.) If you have too many things going on at the same time, the display deteriorates or one or more layers or effects just doesn't show up. I am using the Optimal Performance profile in Rage 3D Tweak and have "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" and "Alternate DVI operational mode" checked on the Catalyst Options tab. I'm using a LCD display with DVI connector and a native resolution of 1600x1200. It seems to be working fine.
