Matth will become famous soon enough
System Specs

They don't compress well, so it's a case of using an appropriate codec with in the file
eg. http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/codec.asp - Techsmith's own lossless codec

Or Alparysoft's
http://www.alparysoft.com/prod/lossless-video-codec.php

The other installed codecs may be available but lossy codecs will not render as crisply - although a more standard codec would be better if you intended distributing (although converting to WindowsMedia would probably be more appropriate)

I dont know of any free apps, but Adobe Premiere, Sound Foundry Vegas, or any other professional video app allows you to render using different codecs and compressions and crap

Divx, 3ivx are good compression codecs, very high quality as well.......used with virtual dub, you can get some fantastic results.

I suggest using virtualdub with either the Xvid codec or the Divx codec to re-encode the movie. Also, an easy factor to shrink filesize in video is to cut the mp3 quality to something like 64-96kbps. Most movies you just simply don't hear the difference between 128kbps and everything else. At least I don't.

It was recommended to me quite some time ago by someone in the professional media business. I and my son have used it quite a bit.

compress avi??? avi is just a container for divx and xvid for example.....they are already compressed file formats

if you want it really smaller...rezise the screen format of the video or the bitrate

I've used the RADTOOLS Smacker/Bink options to reduce a 900 MB AVI into a 17 MB file without loss of screen size.

then the bitrate has changed

else every one would have used smacker..and not divx for video.....

but....i will find out

i think it is a kind of transcodeng or re-encoding..not compressing

Did you have to play around with all the settings? Or did you get away with basically clicking 'smack' or 'bink'?
