System Specs

VirtualDub can extract the audio to a separate file, in whatever format the audio is (if the .AVI has mp3 audio, you'll end up with an .MP3 file.)

Using virtualdub you can directly make a separated audio track as an mp3 if the sound file from the movie is an mp3.

Or you can export it as an mp3 by checking off full processing mode, or if you don't have the necessary filters for Vdub, you can export to WAV and use a program like Itunes to turn it into mp3.

specifically (if i remember, at school currently), audio>direct stream copy, file>save as wav (rename to mp3 or whatever the source is)
