Just got my X-Fi Platinum
Well ups just deliverd my new sound card. Put it in and man this is a huge step from my A2zs. The sound quality is unbelivable. Cost 180 shipped from amazon. I realy did not need it but since a MAJOR system upgrade is the near future I decided to get new sound first.
It seems avery new product from cl they decide to remove features. I like the "Living Room" in cmss but now that is gone, oh well. The bass is very strong, and even stronger when 15db boost is enabled.
Now I need to go get another firewire card I gave mine away cause the zs has firewire, but that card will never see my system agian.

Oh for those wanting to know about the zs dive working w/ this card I will test this weekend. And post my results. I know the connector cable is exactly the same as I am using withe Xfi card and drive.

Well I just hooked up the zs drive and it renders the xfi usless, when I booted the computer I had no sound, but the software said I had the card. So I guess the answer is NO you cannot use the zs drive on the xfi cards.

I was looking at the X-Fi Xtrememusic card... I'm glad people are finding noticeable improvements over the Audigy 2 ZS with the X-Fi series.

I'm hearing nothing but good things about moving up from the A2ZS to this card. I did expect the difference to be incremental, but it does seem to be pretty large after all.
How are the 24bit crystaliser and the new CMSS options? Do they live up to the hype?

CMSS is really great, especialy the stereo expand option, and Headphone mode in CMSS. Stereo expand is great, but can't be used in all music genres, but headphone one is just awesome. It makes me forget that I'm wearing headphones.
Crystalizer is nice too. I've got it set on 100% for all the time and it's really nice to hear music with this.
However don't believe cl that it will make your mp3's even better than oryginal cd ;]
It makes good music to sound better, that's all ;-)

Meh, I picked up one of those extreme music cards from best buy and noticed no difference in sound quality. So I just returned it and stopped caring. I guess with enough high end speakers you can't hear the difference if using X-Fi drivers on Audigy anyways.

that's actually not true
the quality of sound is mainly based on the hardware, not software (unless you have poorly coded, ala creative, drivers). but the quality of an x-fi cannot possibly be obtained with an audigy

I agree with this as well. I love my card, and wouldn't go back to any of the previous versions.

Dammit!
I did hope I could avoid this upgrade and save some cash. I'm not an audiophile or anything, but my new speakers have got me 'in the mood', and how you guys have got me convinced I *need* and X-Fi! =P
That said, good to hear it's a real upgrade, none of the nonsense that was the Audigy4.

But these are creative drivers, heheh. The audio codecs themselves also has a lot to do with it - if you have some good headphones, plug them into your soundcard and listen to some of the low frequency M4A clips found here with different players (they may prompt to save as .mp3 due to the site's configuration, so rename them). The difference between the output from winamp's decoder and quicktime, for instance, is rather distressing, especially when qt isn't originally for the pc platform!
I don't really agree with Creative saying the X-Fi bass boost is 15dB, while it is "true" in a sense, in practice the output should only be about 5dB more than the other channels, due to it being normally attenuated by about 10dB to comply with Dolby's specs
