I tried Youp A4 1.02, kx 3537 and 3538i, Creative official and, at last, beta drivers. For music i'd say that creative latest beta drivers with youp a4 iso applications is the best choice. Why? You'll have 24/96 asio recording support, sound is clear without midi problems.

I have tried the Audigy 4 modded drivers, Creative Official, Creative Beta, and the KX drivers. I was not crazy about the Youp drivers, or the official creative ones.
I like the sound of the KX drivers, but they are more complicated and geared more toward creating / editing music I believe. I had sound issues in 2 games (Far Cray and KOTOR II) and the ventrilo setup doesnt work w/ them, but other than that, I havent had any problems. A friend of mine is into music recording and really loves the KX drivers, and he hasnt had any sound issues w/ any of the newer games. Personally I like the Creative betas the best. They sound better than the official ones and I havent had any sound issues w/ them yet.

First you must unninstall all creative applications in windows add/remove control panel; then unninstall your soundcard under device manager (right click my computer--properties--hardware--device manager), always without any reboot. Delete all "creative tech" registry entries (see more details in the forum)
Delete all creative folders left (c: program files and start menu). After unnistall and delete all creative stuff, reboot your pc. When windows start it finds your soundcard and will ask you to install it. Cancel that process and install the latest beta drivers for your soundcard that you previously downloaded from creative site (click the downloaded file and follow the process). Reboot your pc. After reboot, you must open the youp a4 iso file with alchool or other similar program (mount the image file in your virtual drive) and install what you want to from all creative stuff. Reboot your pc. After reboot, replace the creative speaker settings and creative mixer shortcuts under their installation folders (c: program files:creative:sbaudigy4...) by the ones contained in the patch folder. That's all. |

When u say u like the creative beta's the best, which version do u mean?
Ive looked on creatives site and under the Audigy 2 zs it seems that the latest drivers are the : Creative Sound Blaster Audigy unified series Beta driver with OpenAL support 2.08.0002 So I downloaded and installed these and installed the audigy 4 iso 'creative software' over them to get the multimedia side of the card but mp3's sound a little flat even with the treble turned up max. Im using a Audigy 2 zs with a pair of headphones and the Inspire 7900's.. Do u recommend these drivers or are there better? |

Yes, that's the right driver. About the flat sound, when you installed Youp A4 iso did you uncheck the drivers when you were choosing what to install? Cause you already have the beta drivers installed previously. Check your device manager and if your soundcard driver is 5.12.10.1162 (dated from 29-08-2005) then it's OK. If not, unistall them (just the drivers, not the creative applications), reboot and install the betas again. This is the best combination for music, cause the drivers sound great, you have the nice looking applications from audigy4 and you have 24/96 asio recording support.

i used kx drivers, but i liked the sound of the audigy4 drivers abit better. thanks, though ![]() carnival.. ok, i've deinstalled everything. and used drivercleaner pro. then i've installed those latest betas. then installed the stuff from the youP audigy4pro iso. almost everthing except for the windows drivers. then copied the patched files and installed the speaker calibration. will winxp regocnise the cardas audigy4 again or will it stay as audiy2zs ?? thanks ! |

drivers, then i'll agree also. i haven't heard any difference yet. tho some mp3's still don't sound the same as they did with youP's drivers. let's hope youP/classic_leon will modd these beta drivers to audigy4pro as the same driver package is for audigy2zs and audigy4. but then again .. wouldn't make a difference i think

a audigy4pro ? .. as the beta driver package is for both audigy2zs and audigy4 . maybe i should install youP's drivers from his iso and the 1.02 driver of his. then do a soundcheck. then install the betas again ?? |

The A2 and A4 is almost the same hardware, so the sound would be almost the same, i guess. You can try the youp 1.02 and check the difference. I installed those drivers a "long" time ago, but i had problems with the game port: i wasn't able to play midi sound from an external midi keyboard. So, as far as i'm concerned, my best choice would be ONE of these:
1. Creative betas with youp4 iso (without the drivers) for 24/96 asio recording (thats my case). 2. Kx drivers for 16/48 music production - they allow you to use a lot of good DSP effects (no cpu usage). 3. Creative official (drivers and software) for games and music - they're build to work fine without compatibility issues. Last edited by carnival; Nov 10, 2005 at 05:19 PM. |

So the general view is that the new Creative betas subside the YouP modded A4 drivers, and we should move over to these new ones, right? Cool.
I am right in saying that the only difference between the Audigy4 and Audigy2ZS are the new DAC's, which obviously the drivers can't magically add anyway?

fyi, I'm still using the official ZS2 drivers. Pretty old, but haven't felt like messing with the new stuff. I tried one of the betas, but dont like all the 'broken' functions.
I did discover that using the Parametric Equalizer in the EAX custom module produces much better sound than stock or using the plain old equalizer module. It's not easy to use, but a little experimentation is worth the result. |
