Mic noise

At seemingly random times, my microphone gets an extraordinary amount of noise. It has happened several times before, but each time it somehow goes away after a period of time. Its back again, and I was wondering if any of you have ever had this problem and how you fixed or prevented it.

the noise also decreases whenever the mic or I touch metal, so it may be static buildup on the mic??

What type of mic do you have? How is it placed around your PC?

sounds like the mic input on your soundcard is not properly grounded… not sure how to solve that

Yeah, I think that static sometimes builds up on my mic itself. The mic is surrounded by a thin steel shaft. Anyway, I attached one of those grounding straps to the mic and it all seems fine now. Still have no idea how it builds up though, thanks for the ideas. The mic is the Plantronics audio 70
