bare wire speakers to ipod?

Okay so I JUST(as I am typing this) aquired some rather large pimp-ass speakers. The thing is that they only take bare wire attachments right? Well I dont really use CDs anymore(I have em...but dont use em) because I have my ipod. Currently I have a set of labtec speakers in my room as my room speakers but these BEASTS are awesome. So heres the deal. I wanna hook my ipod up to these. What do I need? Obviously an amplifier of some sort and an adapter to go from either headphone cables or RCA cables(both plug into my ipod) into bare wire.

Anyone know what I need? And the cheaper the better.

my ipod (g3 20gb) has a line out connector on the charger dock. you can use a 3.5mm to stereo rca cable to connect it to an aux input on an amp and then get som beefy cable to connect the amp to the speakers. Make sure the amp is rated correctly to match the impedance (ohms) of the speakers. And make sure the cable is as big as you can afford to help the signal to the speakers.

Yup, what's been said is all correct.

Don't waste money on expensive cable, just go to your hardware store and get a long length of cheap 14 guage cable, then cut and strip it yourself.

It's really up to you to decide how much money you are willing to spend and which amplifier you should choose. Since you refer to the speakers as "BEASTS", though, you can't go far wrong with an integrated amplifier from Harman/Kardon or NAD.

oh yeah and the only thing I can get off of the speakers is that they're made my Sonic. I've heard some people praise them as being awesome and others say "sonic suxorz t3h big1111111"

Anyway where is a good place to purchase such an amp?

I couldn't honestly say as it appears rather difficult to search for U.S. companies on google now (its been optimised to look at U.K. companies over here now) but I found a few places which should be fairly local for you

Be warned though that many of these stores are expensive and have high markups on their goods.

You'd be better off going in, speaking to the guys in the store, getting a few demos of amps you like the look of and then searching the web for online stores. You could save a HUGE amount on audio equipment.
