Ok well been testing it extensively last night. Having some problems:
1: Mediasource will hang if you turn off and on EAX a couple of times. It will then crash and leave the CTMS.exe in the taskmanager. This process cannot be halted and causes inablity to shutdown/restart. Forcing a hard reset. 2: After a couple of reboots, the computer will fail to shutdown or restart properly. I end up with it hanging. Again hard reset required. 3: It seems to be affecting other apps ability to release from processes. With the apps installed, I keep having problems with programs not realeasing the exe from processes section in taskmanager. Without the apps installed and only the PAX drivers, all is fine. But with the PAX drivers, my computer keeps locking up on shutdown. Any ideas?

I try it myself - when I quick turn on/off EAX couple times in Creative MediaSource, then application hangs up for 5 seconds and then it return to normal. But when it play some MP3 and I do the same operation then MediaSource hang up completly and only reset helps...

I am not a total noob but I have a question. This is not a simple install, I have an Audigy Platinum which is the best way to go with the install (newyear or creative drivers) and what "extra applications" if any do I need to install. I installed with the newyear driver option and all the applications on a fresh XP SP2 system but the system wont shutdown. I am about to reformat and start over and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks! |

I have an Audigy and the NewYearv1.2 drivers work much beter for me than the Creative Official drivers for the Audigy. After following the instructions from post #166, if things are not working for you, come back here and post for more help form everybody or classic leon, particularly.

I have read that post and all the others on this thread. The first itme I did the install I waited as advised in post 166. The drivers and aps installed correctly but the system would hang and not shutdown or restart. I think this may be related to the "updates" that appear on the last options screen, do I need to install "audio HQ" etc... for my card or is that what is causing the shutdown hang?
Thanks again and special thanks to classic leon! |

I think the problem is the instructions at the screen with the updates has very funny instructions. If my memory serves me correctly, I remembered seeing tbe instruction saying do not install UNLESS your system has problem shutting down or something like that. Funny thing is, without installing any of the updates, there is no hanging but only after installing "Entertainment Center" which is part of that screen, my com refuses to shut down.

Hi all:
I didnt install the mediasource update nor the Entertainment Center. English is not classic leon's native language, so some things he mentioned about installing the Entertainment Center seems unclear. Surely, things will clear up eventually. But until then, maybe you all who installed the Entertainment Center and are experiencing the hang problem can start over and dont install it next time, and see how things work for you, then.

Uninstalling the entertainment center resolves the issue for me, but that means I will not be able to use my remote control. Another interesting thing I realised was the first time after I installed the entertainment center, it reports and Audigy drive. However, now it's reporting a Live! Drive instead. Maybe this could be the problem......

if you wanna uninstall the newyear package, it's really a pain in the ass. now windows keep on popping up new hardware found, creative soundfont synth, and look for the newyear driver which i no longer have. i tried uninstalling, then driver cleaner pro and install the original driver but to no avail. last resort is to format C: classic, do you have any idea how to uninstall your driver completely??? thanks!

I have reformatted and reinstalled XP SP2 nothing else on the system and want to go for a clean install tonight when I get home from work. The card is an Audigy Platinum. I want to avoid the shutdown hang and need to know what "extra applications" if any need to be installed (audio HQ?) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bad news: Live 2005 NewYear project has been canceled...
Good news: A updated package is being made and It will support Audigy X and SBLive. ![]() Maybe the package now you are using has bugs, but it is beta only and cannot be perfect for everyone. Creative sound is freak as dj_stick said, so it is not possible to be working on everyone's PC properly. But I think most of guys will get this pack run on their pc. Seems Entertianmetn Center got bug for you, try to uninstall this entertianment center and install a MediaSource RemoteControl Component to adjust your remote setting and then install Entertainment Center though I use it on my Audigy2 Platinum properly now. That device is SoundFont midi. the driver of this device is only can be found in PAX NewYear1.2. You could run newyear 1.2 to extract files(after extract the files, you click cancel to abort installation) to your c:\ then get install this device, even though you want to install other drivers, it won't effect your use. or you run the installer of PAX NewYear 1.2 and choose to uninstall during that process. uninstall all cl apps first then the pax drivers then run dh driver cleaner and follow the included instructions then do a manual removal of all leftover stuff.(this is >GSXR<mrbusa's way to remove it vbmenu_register("postmenu_541270", true); )

I think you may install it under pure system if you want to confirm the package and drivers running fine.

So which drivers provide the best sound quality and performance for games.
PAX 1.2 drivers or the creative drivers? |

So a suggestion for the next driver update guide would be to make sure people are not connected to the net, and have both antivirus and firewalls disabled during install.

I'm having a hard time with the EMU 0404 sound card with these drivers. Under Sound And Audio Devices in Control Panel, Device Volume and Speaker Settings are both greyed out (image 3 in link below), and I can't get any sound at all. I don't get any errors however.
http://magsy.net/headfi/emu/ When trying to install some of the Creative software in the PAX package, I get an error saying that a valid component is not detected. Please help! Can I send you a dxdiag report to help? How can I do this? One more expert whose name is UP joins into modding. Probably the previous plan will be back and instead of good news and bad news.
EMU 0404 and EMU 1212 cannot be supported by YouP PAX drivers.

Btw, has anyone with two Creative soundcards tried this hack with one of the cards? I've got an A2 and an 0404, and had a lot of trouble getting them to run together with the standard drivers (because Creative doesnt know how to give their driver dll's new names for each soundcard they produce. Idiots).

No this is terrible news! All I want is EAX on the EMU 0404. Isn't this going to happen?
Is it even possible with this hardware? Sometimes on the forum you say support for EMU1212 in the release notes. Is this an error? If it is possible, I could just mod the drivers myself as I'm handy with the .inf files. What part of the driver affects EAX support, and can the driver support EAX 4.0 without extra software? How can I make the install program "compatible" with my sound card? What does the greyed out Windows volume control mean (please be specific)? Thanks for your help Matt Last edited by mattpwill; Jan 29, 2005 at 07:05 AM. |
