Sound card tweaking
We've all heard about tweaking and graphics cards to the death. There are heaps of programs for doing it too. But how about soundcards? I have recently been investigating the subject and there are alot of things one can do to improve music playback quality.
Now I'm at a point where simple manuevers wont do it and wondering if there is a tool to find and tweak drivers and/or hardware registers? I mean beyond registry settings. Specifically I would like to check and change settings on the DAC of my soundcard. I dont even know if its possible at all. Maybe it has to go through settings of the controller chip if one cannot access the DAC directly.
Why do I want to do this? Because i'm using an old PCI128 (ES1371 with CS4297A) soundcard and I cannot find a driver that does the things I want. The w2k/XP default drivers dont have the necessary settings available and the newer drivers has a lot of quality diminishing features that you cannot turn off.
These types of tweaking problems could be extended to other soudcards, of course, but for the Live and Audigy series you have kXdrivers which takes care of these problems pretty well.
Well.. sorry if that note made your head spin. But at least its something different from the usual "My soundcard doesent work" posts. :P
