Audigy->Audigy 2 Upgrade. . .worth it?

Feedback appreciated. Also, will my Audigy drive work with the A2 if I do upgrade? And what about these "Z" cards?

TIA,

rasta

System Specs

the audigy drive can me used with the a2 series cards, if you build a custom cable

the only difference between the original audigy 2 cards and the ZS series is the audigy 2 is 6.1, and the audigy 2 s is 7.1

Well seeing as you don't have any experience with the A2, your advice is not really useful, it is?

Rasta Monsta,

The A2 is what the original Audigy SHOULD HAVE been. Much better sound, much better driver support, and VASTLY superior DACs. I got rid of all my Audigys a while back and almost wrote off Creative completely, but I decided to give the A2 a chance. Glad I did. It's the first sound card that has decisively moved me away from my TB Santa Cruz. Is it worth the upgrade, YES in my opinion.

Brian, thanks for the response. Do you have any experience with the Live Drive cable issue referenced above (ie, the need to fabricate one)?

TIA,

rasta

Audigy and Audigy2 has different on-board connectors, wich are used to connect to it's 'Drives'...
While Audigy & Live! cards uses same AUD_EXT connector, Audigy2 series uses AD_EXT (note the difference ), wich is something complitely different...

In order to make old Audigy Drive to work on Audigy2, only thing that should be done is to make a custom cable...

If you have any interest doing this, check out these threads, just to learn about AUD_EXT & AD_EXT pinouts:

Soundblaster Live!, Audigy 1/2 and X-Fi* Pinouts
&
Creative Audigy 2 AD_EXT pin assignment

In order to make working cable, you should connect +5V on AUD_EXT to +5V to AD_EXT, GND to GND, SPDIF ins/outs to SPDIF ins/outs, etc, etc, etc...

Should not be very difficult...

P.S. Wish I had older AudigyDrive, so I could 100% verify this on my Audigy2, but some users confirmed this works, smooth as milk...
