Creative Audigy 2 AD_EXT pin assignment

Does anyone know the pin assignment for Creative Audigy or Audigy 2? I want to connect my Front Panel headphones and mic jack. And not only these. I tried to guess some of the pins but it did't work out.

This is great news. Maybe now I can actually get digital out on this thing. Creative rules the sound industry with an iron fist... they don't even sell an add in board of any type for the audigy 2. They figure if someone wants it bad enough they'll go out and buy another card. Pff.

So now that we have this, can someone help with a little guide on getting digital out? I assume I would connect pins 25 and 35 to fake the live drive (using a homemade cable I'll be starting on shortly). How do I go about the cable for the actual digital out for pin 9 (it is spdif0 i would use correct)?

My Case is the CoolerMaster Praetorian - which has front mic and headphone sockets. It has the following connectors:

MIN_IN, MIC_PWR, GROUND

L-OUT, R-OUT, L-RET, R-RET.

So how do I go about connecting the MIC? Also, what about the smaller white ish area.. I thought that is where you plug these in!

I have the add-on board from my SB-LIVE card and connected it to the Audigy2 card and it works fine.

Seriously? I have my old I/O front panel but I was under the impression the pinout had changed so I never bothered to try it. That would explain why Creative didn't want to publish the datasheet for this. Less money for them.

I guess it doesn't matter as I've been doing some reading I never bothered to do before. The Sound Blaster cards are only useful with multi speaker setups when you're using the analog connections. The only time the spdif is useful is for DVD playback (or other AC3). I have a SoundStorm onboard which I use for that. I wish Nvidia would get into the sound card business. They'd give Creative one hell of a run.

ok, so can anybody help me with how i should connect the front panel headphone jack to the audigy 2. I see that the mic port is clearly marked. but the audio out is more cryptic (if there is one?).

IMPORTANT
for those who want to put analog inputs and outputs on the audigy 2, such as mic and headphones, you MUST build a seperate hardware converter - these are all digital inputs and outputs on the AD_EXT (AUD_EXT for live! and audigy 1 for that matter aswell)
the electronics section at Travelrec's website should help you if you want to buils these converters

Can you post a diagram of the Audigy 1 EXT pins?

Or possibly post a link to a diagram or jpg?

I have been wanting to use the spdif in on those pins, as my internal dvd player has 2 pin spdif digital out that I have neglected to use.

Would be nice to see how much better it sounds using the spdif in.

I take it there wouldn't need to be any sort of conversion?

other creative soundcard header pinouts
the AUD_EXT has 2 spdif ins and they work fine with internal optical devices

one thing i have noticed - they give is one less s/pdif input that the AUD_EXT connectorâ€¦ now that is crap

Please post some feedback & experiences, especially if you are trying to connect old LiveDrive, AudigyDrive or IR drive to Audigy2 card series... Since we discovered actual pinouts, we don't have appropriate 'drives' for proper testing...

Any chance you guys could find the pin-out for the white connector on most OEM Sound Cards including the Audigy? These should include an analog output AFAIK. I have been using this OEM port along with a proprietary cable and front I/O panel from a Dell optiplex to get front panel audio on my machine for about a year now. I'd love to be able to bypass the I/O module and plug directly into the front audio ports on newer cases.

hmm i thought that was internal firewireâ€¦
afaik a2 cards never had an analogue header, i guess i was wrong
EDIT: the module may have a DAC inbuiltâ€¦
in the creative driver folder - look in the help folder for a file called hwinfo.hlp

Audigy2 OEM model you said? I taught I have Audigy2 OEM model, and it looks like this:

Jebo ih ja! Picture shows exact place where white (J1) connector should be! Damn, it doesn't have J1 connector at all!

And your SB0240 semms to have J1 connector! Audigy2 ZS (SB0350) also has this thing. People, Creative really sucks!

All I know about J1 connector is that pin 10 goes to pin 36 @ AD_EXT, and pin 3 goes to pin 151 @ 10K2 chip (this could be SPDIF input related). Maybe i could trace all pins so we could find out what are rest of them...

I'm not exactly sure what you want me to do... You want to know what color wire comes off J1? All the pins have leads going to I/O Panel via the OEM Cable.

it would either be the live! drive (CT4861/SB0010) or a digital daughter card (CT4710/CT4770)

and the pinouts for the AUD_EXT connector used for that is here

I had a look at the CT4710 Optical Digital I/O Board you mentioned. I could not find the CT4861 at all. The CT470 does not look like I will be able to connect my front panel audio/MIC to it?

Sorry to be a pain, I really am a newbie when it comes to audio. Are you saying if I have the white J1 connector on my audigy2 I can plug the wires direct to this, after working out which pins on the J1 to use?

Don't think I have it anyway, don't remember seeing it.

So now I have to build a DAC module add-on card? Does the DAC convert the analog inputs from my case to digital for the card? Can I buy one from somewhere?
