I really need some help. I am a bit of a n00b when i comes to audio. I just got a Audigy 2 ZS (with out the front thing which costs a lot) and i forgot that most PCI sound cards don't have connectors for Front Pannel Audio on them. So i need to know how to connect my Front Mic and Headphones to it. know i got lost with the first post on this forum. I don't know what SP-DIF is or anything. can sound one please SIMPLY explain how to connect my Front Audio to it. Regards Ross |

By using J1 (white) connector... Check out this very thread in details & you'll figure out...
Good luck!

HI!
I have a little problem that after all the talking in this thread still remains mistery for me. I have a Audigy 2 and a SB Live!Drive. All that I want from them is to make microphone, headphones and MIDI in/out ports working. I built some cables from the schemas found in this thread but all that i could get is Light on Optical out.. wich I realy don't care if it works or not. and quiet in headphones. Now... what should I do to make this work..? ... Thanks!... |

Hi guys. I am trying to connect an Abit Uguru front panel audio pins to a Audigy 2 Platnium.
Here are the Uguru pin assignments; 1. Audio Mic 2. Ground 3. Audio mic Bias 4. VCC 5. Speaker out right channel 6. Speaker out right channel return 7. X 8. NC 9. Speaker out left channel 10. speaker out left chennel return How do the Uguru pin assignments match up to the Audigy pin assignments? Thanks |

I previously had a dell which had front panel headphones that were connected to my Audigy 2 ZS by a ribbon cable.
I recenlty changed my case to a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream. This has front panel mic and headphones. I have them set up to the onboard sound and it works fine but it have to disable my audigy 2 zs for it to work and vice versa if i want the speakers to work. The connectors are as follows: Ear Right (Line In Right) Ear Left (Line In Left) Ground Mic VCC Mic In Return Left (Line Out Left) Return Right (Line Out Right) |

Same problem as David Mills
Hello all you knowledgeable types. I'm having exactly the same problem as the poster mentioned above. i too have a new Thermaltake case, with the same individual connectors.
I've read and re-read this thread and I'm at my wits' end for being unable to get the answer myself. My Audigy 2 ZS card has the 10-pin J1 connector on it, but I cannot figure out which pins to slide the individual connectors onto, to connect up the case 'phones and mic sockets. I don't want to randomly stick connectors onto pins in the vague hope that I get lucky for fear of zapping my soundcard or my ears. So please, please can someone put me out of my misery and post an exact account of which connector - Ear L - Return L - Ear R - Return R - Mic VCC - Mic-in - Ground connects to which pin on the J1 connector? Also, once these are connected properly, will jacking some headphones in automatically disable output to the speakers? Huge thanks, in advance, Fitz. |

reference chart
Hooking up the front panel audio connectors is way more complicated than it needs to be. For some reason none of the manufacturers bothered to put out a chart or reference to illustrate the various naming conventions. After some web research, I put the following information together. Can't be 100% certain on all these, but this is the best I could figure out. If anyone has better info, please feel free to update. [Apologies for the spacing errors, pasting from rtf to txt, you can correct in your own word processor.]

Hello guys.
I have an Audigy 2 ZS and an Audigy 1 drive. I converted the flat cable of the drive by tearing it up and rearranging the single cables the way Samir suggests. Result: Headphones, remote, midi-in work. The tosslink out is always lit. The problem (and to me a big one) is Aux2/LineOut2 doesnt work. All i get is noise... I read the whole thread and saw only ppl asking about live!drives. Should i upgrade my audigy drive the way Lov3r suggests? Doesnt it already have the correct ADCs? Could it be that i havent connected the pin10@J1 ? Any help would be much appreciated

Well!! ~~Add to the mensan's S.O.S
After connecting modified cable(rearranged by lov3r's guide) to the drive, I'm getting DTS decoding problem..I'm getting massive hiccup, freeze or no-sound...(audigy2+audigy1 drive) which was working perfect w/ audgy4 softmod driver & program before hooking it up. I think somebody mentioned about it in this thread somewhere before..... My question is to lov3r: I know that changing ADC and resistance value will fix the aux/line problem, then would it fix the DTS decoding problem as well???.. ..If so.... I'll be eager to serch my dusty stack and grab my rusty solder. Many thanx in advance........guys!!!!1 |

Ummm, you get DTS decoded audio from the connectors on back of the card, so I don't think the problem is on the Drive... or the problem may be the U14 on the drive that, sending back the I2S clock to the Audigy may interfere with it's clock... if disconnecting the Drive the decoding works well, try removing U14... if this work, you have to do the work I've posted previously regarding U14 and nearest resistors

First off , Thanx for your feedback "lov3r"
And regarding to the audigy1 drive w/ modified cable..... the moment I unhook the cable, all DTS decoding problems are gone and it back into action normal works perfect. I'll get to the MOD about I2S-thing you mentioned right away......and post the result later... Actually I just changed the 3 of Opamps on the audigy2 card to AD8620, 7 OPA2604 for the speakers just for warming up my soldering technique to prepare this mission....^^... great sound though !!!!!even...no white noize at all...Certainly guite a unexpected upgrade!!!! (same pins as shown above) Do I connect it to the 40 pin ADC? or some other one shown here SB Live! & Audigy Pinouts ? and does this that thread even relate to my audigy 2 zs card? im so confused ![]() thx for your help. |

the AUD_EXT has no analogue inputs or outputs
you cannot use the front panel ports for these

If your card has J1 (white) connector you should be able to connect your case audio ports... See this thread for J1 pinouts...

This is what I figured out about that J1 white connecter after lookin over this thread again
Quote:
![]() EDIT: I tried the first picture, and it seemed to work, the audio worked in my headphones through the front panel, but I couldn't hear my front speakers any more, even messing with the speaker settings, headphones, 4.1, they didnt play. Then my computer turned it's self off at a random time, bout 5 minutes of being on with the panel plugged into my card. dunno what happened, could have been due to i had to remove the wires from my case out of their black plastic pin holders and put the wires into a connecter made for the J1 pinout, might of not got them in all the way on the card or some thing. Design flaw of my case. Now my speaker setup program seems to be crashing every time I open it.. EDIT2: deleted 2nd image, i made sure the pins were in the connector all the way, but now i get no sound through my speakers with out my headphones plugged into my case.. interesting, doesnt really annoy me so i guess ill leave it like that any way thanks guys, looks like its working through my case's panel now!

I too had to remove the black pin coverings to get the connectors to stay in place. The auto-detect headphones options in the Audio Console doesn't seem to work either for muting my main speakers when I plug in headphones through the front panel of my case. |

God, I am confused!!
Is there any hope for me to connect my brand new front panel to whatever Audigy pins to obtain mic L/R - Front/Rear/L/R - Ground - bass - center? If so, is there any clear picture / diagram showing which pin is to be connected to each items above? Your assistance will help for those still fighting with Audigy 1... Quote:

4x4: if you have the white J1 connector, use the pinout earlier in this thread. If all you have is the AUD_EXT you're stuffed UNLESS you have a SPDIF encoder/decoder

I will look tomorrow at work at the ZS cards, I noticed today they jumper two sets on the AUD_EXT connector, for using the J1 connector. Unless someone here has a Dell with a ZS that can tell us.

Does anyone know the pinouts for the white 3.5MM Connector for SPDIF Out/In on the Sb0400, Audigy 2 Value?
I am Building a Custom Case for my Media center and I want to have the outputs on the rear of the case without seeing the actual cards. |

Hi All !
First of all - thnx for this great thread I have SB Audigy Player card (SB0090) and Gigabyte's SPDIF Output Device (look at the bottom of http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/...nnel_audio.htm). What i'm trying to do is to connect Gigabyte's optical out to Audigy's SPDIF IN to to have optical in in my soundcard. Here's the pinout for sb audigy --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 VCC +5V power supply 2 VCC +5V power supply 3 GND Ground 4 AC97CLK 24.5 MHz clock output 5 GND Ground 6 GP_SPDIFIN#2 SPDIF input signal 7 GND Ground 8 GND Ground 9 SPDIFO#3 SPDIF out Signal 10 GPO1 General Purpose Output #1 11 GPO2 General Purpose Output #2 12 GND Ground 13 GPO0 General Purpose Output #0 14 GND Ground 15 GP_ SPDIFIN1 SPDIF Input signal 16 GND Ground 17 GPDIFO#0 SPDIF Out signal 18 GND Ground 19 SPDIFO#1 SPDIF Out signal 20 GND Ground 21 GND Ground 22 SPDIFO SPDIF Out signal 23 GPI0 Digital Input (GP Input 0; Reserved) 24 GPI1 Digital Input (GP Input 1; Reserved) 25 OUTMIDI MIDI Output 26 GND Ground 27 INMIDI MIDI Input 28 GND Ground 29 KEY no pin 30 KEY no pin 31 ADCSDO2 I2S audio data input 32 GND Ground 33 ADCSDO1 I2S audio data input. 34 GND Ground 35 ADCSDO0 I2S audio data input 36 GND Ground 37 I2SCLK I2S serial bit clock 38 GND Ground 39 I2SFS Frame sync. 40 GND Ground -------------------------------------------------------------------- At first i've made optical out by connecting vcc,gnd and spdif out #0 and it worked fine (red light in Gigabyte's optical port). Then i tried to do the same but with spdif in ( i've tried both of them) but there's no light or sound (used PlayStation 2 optical out to check if it's working). What am i doing wrong ? Is optical in port different from optical out ? |

hey, I have the Audigy2ZS gamer card and I recently purchased an old SB Live Drive IR hoping they would be compatable. I just plugged the cable from the live drive to my audigy2zs and the live drive does not work.
I was hoping that someone who has the live drive working w/ the audigy2zs could help me get it to work. Thanks.

using the coaxial will be fine but with optical, the motherboard bracket is the transmitter, and has an led, what you need is the receiver, with a ldr or phototransistor

In relation to this thread.
I want to get my SB Audigy (A2) ZS to have S/PDIF in and out (coaxial and optical). I recently took apart a computer which wasn't mine to fix, and discovered this I took the PC home and piked the SPDIF attachment to the card and fixed the PC and returned it. Now I have the SPDIF module, from what I gathered its possible to mod the A2 ZS into having SPDIF. ![]() My question, is it possable to mod this small card to work with the A2 ZS so I can use the SPDIF inputs and outputs? I think I have an idea how to do it, but I just dont wanna bust my A2 ZS. Thanks DDY |

that card will easily work with the A2ZS
all you need to do is bridge pins 25 and 35, and then connect the correct pins from the AD_EXT to the pins on that expansion card you'll need to figure out which pin does what on that card, perhaps using google to find the model name
