Well, living this close to Italy i should really know what arrivederci means... btw, BabelFish service always does its job when one is unsure about some words in foreigen language... ![]() Now, i'm 100% clear about what you've done to your Live!Drive for SPDIF to work... ![]() About used Live!Drive; Yes i'll, go for eBay, i've seen cheap SBLive! + Drive offerings overthere... As for uda1361 i've checked rs.components, in Eureope it's only avaliable in Italy, UK & Germany... I'll try to look elsewhere, or contact my friends in Germany...grazie!

I too would like to connect the front panel of my old Live DriveII to my new Audigy2 ZS, but alas my skills at understanding the pin diagrams are not up to the task of creating whatever is needed, (at least not with the current diagrams anyway)
As it is the card does not recognize the panel, could anyone send me, or point me to an easy to follow guide on how to make up a new cable? or even make one up for me, I would be happy to pay for it? |

You'll need some soldering work to connect LiveDriveII to A2zs... Are you sure you want to do this?!? Only AudigyDrive can work @ A2zs, assuming that you make custom cable...

yo, been inerested in this for a while now. but until now have never really been able to find any information on connecting an older live drive to a newer creative card.
i have a plain old audigy 2 (no zs) and an audigy live drive.. i also have an original live drive laying around somewhere, (dont know what happened to the sblive 5.1 that came with it though) the live drive i got from a friend a while back (missing cable and remote), and functioned fine with an audigy 1, and using a simple 40 pins ide cable. however that is not the case with the audigy 2.. reading through the pages here i was happy to find the pin outs for the the audigy 2 card, though i guess to do it right pinouts for an audigy live drive would also be handy. to my knowledge that hasnt been posted yet, but i do understand that some of you have had success connecting older live drives, so please share the info.. i would like to as well. also i was wondering, do the audigy 2 and the audigy 2 zs have different pin outs? |

alright so if i were to make a special cable for my audigy, and later switch to the zs the same cable would still apply... hmmm now i just wonder about the audigy 4, because its more likely ill switch to that one when the time comes though at the moment i think that only comes in a pro (well more or less platinum) version.. but im sure oem versions will appear at some point

there will only ever be an audigy 4 pro
but the cable for the audigy 2 will work for the audigy 2 ZS

Hello, new here. Just bought the Audigy 2 ZS, and I believe that some users have tried experimenting it to work with the front/top casing port (mic, headphones). After reading all the thread, I did not find a definate solution to that problem. I use a thermaltake Tsunami case. Good thing is all the pins toward the card are individual, so I can directly connect it.
Anyone knows how to connect it? Another thing, that ppl did not discuss is converting it into a AUX out, or CD-out like from the cdrom to the sound card. On the card there is CD-in. I bought this card thinking it will support the thermaltake Xpeaker. Now looks like it needs adjustments to work with my previous settings. Anyone made a CD-OUT of the card? Should have gone with the audiotrak prodigy 7.1 LT. ![]() Thanks. Last edited by mystvearn; Feb 10, 2005 at 05:50 AM. |

the outputs are on the rear of the case for output
or on the J1 connector - when i find the cable i used for the front panel audio out i'll take a photo

for the casing so that I can use the mic & headphones? or for the xpeaker?also, I have this MSi s-bracket, I just fix it without doing like the spdif pic a few pages back. The spdif socket, was larget than the socket on the card. Must I adjust it? Here is a pic: ![]() But I'm more interested in getting sound at the the headhphones, and the CD-out thing

For this bracket to work, you must find out EXACT pins (on that black connector) for audio ground, 1st and 2nd left & right channels... Also, if you want to connect that SPDIF outputs, you'll need to know what pins are GND, +5V & SPDIF_IN...
In your motherboard manual theree should be pinout for this. When you know exact pinout you'll need to disassemble that black connector & make another according to J1 connector... (using one or two old analog cd-rom to sound card cable) God luck!

I have this setup, help! it doesent work!
Hello, i got an Xcard wich is a DVD decoder PCI card that has an internal S-pdif OUT wich is connected to an Audigy 2 OEM trough pins 5 and 6 of the AD_EXT internal connection, i also have pins 25 and 35 connected so i can fool the audigy into beleiving it has a Drive bay connected and let me decode 5.1 Spdif audio and output it trough the three analog audigy outputs to my speakers. I used this guide to connect it:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, the Xcard works great in combination with the Audigy 2. For full functionality though, it often does require you to 'fool' your Audigy 2 into thinking it has an extra drive bay (aka Live!Drive / Audigy Drive) connected. I was frustrated by this problem for over 6 months until someone finally found the answer and posted it on the kX Project & DriverHeaven.net forums (BIG thanks to them btw!!!). (Creative Audigy 2 AD_EXT pin assignment) The way to connect your Xcard and Audigy 2 is to use a SPDIF cable from the internal SPDIF-Out of the Xcard to the internal SPDIF-In on the Audigy 2. This way, you will send the encoded AC-3 audio from the Xcard to your Audigy 2 for decoding, and the decoded audio to your speakers via the Audigy 2's 3 analog outputs. The problem however, is that the 'normal' SPDIF-In on an Audigy 2 (the one on the top of the card, labelled "CD_SPDIF") is NOT connected in a way that it will accept and decode AC-3 signals, it is only designed for unencoded digital (CD) audio. There are 2 solutions to this problem: Creative's solution is to advise you to buy an (expensive) internal drive bay featuring various extra connections; including a "real" SPDIF-In, which will accept AC-3 signals. The other solution is to play a little "trick" on your card. You see, a normal Audigy 2 does have a 'real' internal SPDIF-In connection! The key is in the image below: (Creative Audigy 2 AD_EXT pin assignment) Displayed on the image above are the "ad_ext" pin connections, which are located on the right side of an Audigy 2 card. You need to connect the Xcard SPDIF-Out to ad_ext pins 5 & 6. This solution had been known for quite a while, but it didn't always solve the entire problem! You see, the next problem is enabling AC-3 decoding on the SPDIF-In in the Audigy 2 driver. I never was able to get it to work with kX Drivers (I have an Audigy 2 ZS myself) and the Creative drivers refused to show me the decode option because it's only supposed to be available for people using one of Creative's drive bays. The solution was finally found a few months ago though; all you have to do is connect ad_ext pins 25 & 35 and 'magically' the Creative driver will be fooled into believing you have a drive bay connected! (I used another standard SPDIF cable to do this myself... but do make sure you don't connect pins 26 & 36 when doing so!) When this is done, go to "Creative Audio HQ -> Device Controls -> Digital Input" select "Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-In decode" and click OK. If you have also enabled "Compressed SPDIF" in Xmedia Player's audio settings screen (or the same setting in JovePlayer) you should now be able to enjoy 5.1 surround sound! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What could i be doing wrong? Im using a Star wars episode one dvd and when i select Compressed SPDIF output on the Xmedia player or Joveplayer it doedent sound at al, but when i put Analog PCM it does sound, even tohough it isnt 5.1, just plain stereo. When i play mp3 stereo concent with the Xmedia player and have it in Compressed SPDIF output and PCM they both sound. the problem is when playing 5.1 content like dvd videos.. anybody?? Thanks a lot !!!! Alejandro. |

Tried any other DVD titles? Also, Creative drivers contain some bugs concerning AC3 playback / decoding... Make sure you have most recent driver version... Also, try other DVD players...

Hi - i have an audigy 1, not 2. Is this possible with the audigy 1? And could someone please explain how exactly i connect the pins to fake the drive? I'm a newbie in the tweaking / modding dept. I want to connect my Ultra Media Dashboard's S/PDIF out ports to the audigy card, if that's possible. The cable included with the ultra media dashboard only has 2 pins on the end - one black, one white. Would anybody be able to help me find a way to connect these two devices? I've played around with the pin configuration before and managed to get a signal through the spdif optical out (i saw a red light come through) but when i tried to record to my minidisc, it read "no signal" can somebody PLEASE help?

It is possible, indeed!
Look here. On that link, there is a description wich appllies to both Live! & Audigy1 cards, because they share same old AUD_EXT connector... Only important thing, in your case, is part of schematic wich shows pins 1, 7 & 23 connected using one 4.7K Ohm resister & one 100nF cap... Reading "Pulling pin 23 high through a 4.7k ohm resistor tells the SoundBlasterョ Live cards that a LiveDriveョ is connected" will give you some clues...About these media dashboards, i'm not 100% sure if only two SPDIF pins are enough, but after you 'fake' your Audigy you should try connecting black wire to GND @ AUD_EXT and white wire to any SPDIF output... Good luck!

Thanks for your input - i'll give it a shot. buuut... Where could i get those materials? radioshack? Actually, I'm no electrical engineer or anything, so i wouldn't even know how to connect the parts as in the diagram, but i do have a soldering iron to play with... Could someone provide an explanation for newbies? Also, do i just connect my black n white pins to ANY GND and S/PDIF out pins? or do they have to be specific ones? the website u linked me says he used pin 17 for the SPDIF out. Thanks

You can buy a 2 pin SPDIF cable and just push it on to the pins (17 and 18). These often come with CD-ROM drives. Get it the right way round of course (black to pin 18). It's just the right size. I'm using one to connect two 0900s together (SPDIF Out to IN). See pinouts in SB Live! & Audigy Pinoutss=&threadid=48786

Spielfreek - you said you connected to 0900s together? What are those? and does your spdif i/o work when you do that? My media dashboard came with the 2-pin cable made to connect to a cd/dvd drive, but one end is attached to a board on the front panel of the unit. I tried attaching the other end (pins) to pins 17 and 18. The red light came out of the optical out port, but no signal went through. Anyone know how to fake the audigy 1 drive without having to use resistors and capacitors? didn't someone find out how to do that with the audigy 2 just by connecting two pins...?
i wish i had the cash for an audigy 2ZS platinum...

0900 probably sposed to be SB0090, the original Audigy 1 model, possible to get 8 recordable inputs with two of these cards
for both my old SB0060 (live!) and my SB0162(audigy 1) i haven't needed to use the fake drive option to use the AUD_EXT header - probably becuase i use the kX drivers you'll most likley need to use the fake drive option to trick the CL drivers

yea.. i just did some catching up in the forums. sorry for the dumb question. Now all i have to wait for is for the possibility of EAX support from kX. So you installed kX and were able to use individual pins on the AUD_EXT? will kX solve my problems with winamp and gaming too? sound cuts out after a few minutes.. thanks dj stick

using drivercleaner between stages, you can always test kX, and go back to CL if you wish

ok, I have another thread in KX drivers general discussions forum.
So here is what I want to do. 1. compuer with Audigy 2 with kx 3538h drivers (first tryed with 3537); 2. stand-alone DVD player with coaxial digital out enabled; 3. a home-made adapter coax RCA - 2 pin moles (from a CD ROM audio cable); I want to try to connect that DVD player to Audigy 2 to decode AC3 stream and to get 5.1 analog output. First tried to connect do onboard Audigy's CD SPDIF in. Made the connection and I had a little blue square blinking in low right corner of my monitor. So the soundboarde received the signal but I had no output. After that dj_stick told me that for AC3 decoding tha only SPDIF in connector should be from AUD_EXT pins. So, I've read some more posts and made again the connection : SPDIF in at pins 5-6 ( 5-sinal, 6-ground ) and bridge between pin 25 and pin 35. And nothing. nothing nothing ! No noticement about SPDIF in signal...nothing... A litlle help would be very appreciated. Thank you. PS: my kx DSP is the one standard ( who came with kx driver ) |

First, to make one thing clear; You don't need 25 to 35 pin bridge if you are using kX drivers at all! You only need this 'hack' to force orginal Creative driver to assume there is Audigy2Drive connected...
Second, are you 100% sure that your "home made adapter coax RCA" works well?!? This is how "coax to TTL" converter should look like (see lower part of that image, pin 15 works on Audigy1 & Live! series, it should be pin 5 for Audigy2 series): ![]() this image was taken from here. read that article, no matter it's for Live! cards... good luck!
