Default Post Sonar + Compaq Drivers + Audigy

Hey Everyone,

I found this post in the Creative Support Newsgroup for Audigy and found it very interesting. Here is the Original Post in it's "natural" form.

I uninstalled the Compaq drivers almost immediately after I installed them
with help from here (thx Guiz) cos' of audio drop-outs, 120 ms. latency
problem using WDMs and just bizarre problems in Sonar 1.31. I got some
advice when I went home last weekend - which I took - but I don't understand
which was to reinstall the Compaq drivers and then reinstall the official
Creative update 1/21 drivers (I know the update in October was the one that
actually fixed something relevant, but I didn't upgrade my OS 'til January,
and still had the .exe file on my hard drive) that was what originally
eliminated my latency problems to begin with. I was told to do this because
I would notice improved performance from the Compaq drivers and this
friend-of-a-friend (no newbies they, like myself) had done so after
downloading them and had similar immediate problems and just tried it on a
hunch. Well I just tried it and it worked beautifully. I reinstalled the
Compaq drivers, had the same problems as before. I then reinstalled the
1/21 updated drivers (I know, really from October), ran the wave profiler in
Sonar and the latency defaulted to my old 10 ms. setting (for a guitar
player, I spend most of my time with my new soft-synths). And now my
previously recorded audio tracks seem... tighter ????. I was (and am still
am) getting some MIDI peculiarities before the Compaq drivers within Sonar,
but I've learned how to deal with (or around) those. And I just don't get
this. The only reason I'm posting this is that it might be helpful to
someone using Sonar 1.31 and might have had problems with the Compaq drivers
as I did. I don't know... but right now I'm pretty content... but I would
like new, official drivers of course Thanks to all for the info on this
site.

That's a bunch of bull. I work with Midis too and I haven't noticed anything wrong with Compaq drivers that wasn't wrong to begin with. If you're a musician looking for the lowest latency and you don't care about EAX or anything, download the kx drivers because they lower your latency by a lot (more than any creative drivers). I think the guy who had trouble with the compaq drivers was too much of a noob to computers (and possibly to midi).

Same here... besides I don't use my Audigy for any type of midi. I either use the MAC at my friend's studio or the Terratec in his PC. It's just an instance of messing around till it worked for him, and then deciding that was the answer. Everything is not as it seems.
