??? DirectX 9.0b not using Audigy Player HW Acceleration. Help!

I just completed a clean install of Windows XP Pro, applying all Service Packs and updates.

I have an original Sound Blaster Audigy Player card and went to the Creative site and downloaded the latest drivers (AUD_EAX4DRV_031031.exe).

I installed these drivers and the card was then recognized and seemed to be working OK.

I then ran the dxdiag.exe utility and discovered that for the DirectSound tests I could not run the hardware buffered tests .

Worse still, in the 'Device' area on the 'Sound' tab of the dxdiag.exe utility the name field has my card name with '(emulated)' tagged on the end of it. Also, the 'Drivers' area on the 'Sound' tab has all blank fields except for the 'Provider' field which says Creative .

I have installed NO software (including any drivers) from my original Audigy installation disk.

I have also installed DirectX 9.0b again since applying these Audigy drivers (AUD_EAX4DRV_031031.exe).

It seems like the drivers are not installed properly for some reason.

Does anybody know what have I missed or done wrong? Is there anything I can try?

Thanks for any help.

I have the exact same problem, only with an SB Live!. I've searched far and wide for a solution, but without any luck.

try installing the original software, and removing any phantom devices in the device manager

also under speaker setup make sure hardware acceleration is at full

Thanks for the help.

I forgot that I actually posted this it's been soooo long.

I actually solved my problem by installing the original drivers off the original CD first (as suggested by dj_stick ).

I then installed the latest drivers over the top.

This worked for me with no problems.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, i've already tried all that. I've had everything removed that I possibly could, to start over, installed the original drivers etc. nothing worked. Also tried the driver remover tool from this site.
I've now just reinstalled Windows XP and everything is fine.

I am guessing some other software or driver I might have installed caused it, but I have no idea what it could have been.
