check your windows sounds control panel - you need to set that to 5.1 or 7.1, or you'll never be able to use the other outputs properly.

Also note that some pro and semi-pro soundcards don't work for 5.1 in windows, as instead of appearing as a single device, they appear as several stereo devices (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 etc) - i haven't used the terratec before, so I'm unaware of how it would work

what is the windows default sound device? does it end with "1/2"

if so, you're out of luck, and you interface is one of those that windows doesn't recognise as multi-channel

ok, what content are you playing through the speakers? games? mp3/cd?

if you're playing a stereo sourcel ike an mp3 or cd, you're going to get stereo sound - that's normal

if you're playing a game, you need to make sure it's set to support 5.1
