Vista 64bit surround sound problem

Hi all,

I'm sorry to ask this question again, but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what to do. My problem is that I'm running my X-Fi XtremeGamer on Vista 64 bit, and I can't get my speakers to work. Currently I'm only getting 2.1 sound instead of 5.1 as with XP. I've downloaded the PAX drivers ((Pax-X-FI-OS-Driver-V5.20) codename “Wing Foot”) and I still can't get my rear speakers to work. The strange thing is, they work through Vista's callibration mode, but through the console I've got nothing. I can't get CMSS to work at all, which is what I think has been giving me my nice 5.1 sound on XP....Can anyone please explain to me what I have to do to get everything working properly??

Thanks,
Danny

PS: (sorry again for asking - I've read tons of posts here and still can't figure it out )

AHA! I've downloaded the new updated Vista x64 files and I can get surround in games. BUT.....With music still nothing. After playing arround with settings I can get the speakers to now 'identify' themselves when I click on them through the console, and I CAN get surround when using EAX effects...I have no idea why but as soon as EAX is turned on I get sound out of ALL my speakers when playing music!!!! The only thing is, I don't like EAX effects.. If anyone has another solution could you please help? Thanks, Danny

System Specs

music is normally stereo, so it makes sense that it will only play out of two speakers

you'll either need to use one of the EAX modes, or find an "up-mix" setting

Damn......I had my music on my onld computer working on all 5.1 but I was using Creative Mediasource, which won't play my nice new I-Tunes files....Thanks for the explanation though - it was driving me nuts :P. Do you know why the EAX effects work but the normal mode dosent (I hate the echO)? Anyway, thanks again, Danny
