??? What is SPDIF In?

I know it may sound dumb question. Can I used Coaxial cable from my direc tv into my new sound card? And Yes my direc tv HD DVR has it?. Would also PS3 has Coax cable too?
Line in only support 2.0 sound I thought it would do full speaker sound oh well lol. I'm going tested movies on later today.

System Specs

SPDIF - Sony Philips Digital Interface
Stereo digital audio signal, up to 24bit 192khz, can be sent via coax cable (RCA plugs usually) or over an optical cable (as Toslink)

unless the signal is pre-encoded/compressed at the source (dvd, ddl etc) you won't get multi-channel sound
5.1 and S/PDIF
