I need a sound card that decodes DTS from S/PDIF in.

Hey guys. I noticed the YouP-PaX drivers here, but I wanted to confirm before I made my purchase.

Will a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio (one optical in, one optical out) decode DTS from S/PDIF input and output analog 5.1 with the modified drivers?

If not, are there any cards that will?

That card is the one I have....

According to the Creative website, it is supposed to once you download a free upgrade with your purchase. Apparently it's apart of a program called "Power DVD".

I purchased the card back in January and I have yet to figure out where the free download is supposed to come from. It's posible you have to register to be able to get it because I am still trying to find the link and have yet to register.

I also purchased WinDVD 9 plus Blu-Ray to get some other codecs and it has DTS with it. Still my PS3 when set to Dolby Digital doesn't give me anything but static when I start it up or play a game. (It's connected using the optical in) The DTS does fine though and worked fine ever before I got the WinDVD program.

In case you haven't heard there are a lot of problems with the Creative sound cards that are supposed to work with Vista which may be my problem.

Another problem I am having is that it's supposed to be a 7.1 card but for whatever reason it is only giving out 5.1 sound.

I am waiting to hear now from Creative's tech support to see if they can solve the problem but I am not holding my breath. If someone can let me know what I need to do if it's not a vista problem, then please.

Overall, I would recommend the card because it's a simple solution if you want the optical in and out capabilities, but only if it worked!

If anyone can help me solve my problem, please let me know.

if you play 5.1 sound (dolby digital, DTS etc) through a 7.1 soundcard you get 5.1 sound

as for decoding DTS, try a freeware app called "AC3Filter" - it should do the trick

sorry, it's not just when I am trying to use DTS or Dolby Digital. it's all the time I only get 5.1.

plus, it turns out i was mistaken. DTS works fine. It's Dolby Digital I am get the static with.

okay, did more research.

the gaming mode is only available to the high end cards. i think everything else i should have, unless someone else can correct me there too.

still, the problem is that i need dolby digital and don't have it and i was supposed to from the get go.

okay, so i did even more research.

the problem isn't the sound card. it's vista. turns out vista doesn't support dolby digital so no matter what i do, it won't work. i will always get static if i turn my ps3 to dolby digital audio output.

could anyone explain why this might be or how i might be able to get around it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------
okay, now i find an article that says the exact opposite of creative.... Dolby 5.1 Gets Vista Boost - 1/30/2007 7:06:00 AM - TWICE

am i loosing my mind?

so i found that that dts and dd only work when playing a dvd on your dvd-rom with your computer. not support for s/pdif.

that too me doesn't make any sense. If someone is goign to make a card with s/pdif someone would want to use it as a reciever. so with that in mind why not put dts and dolby digital support on it?

anyway, the whole thing is crap. let me know anyone if you can mod a driver to get the tabs in the audio console to work for the pcie extreme audio.

unfortunatly, i do not have the money to buy a new card.... and if i did i would buy asus dx or whatever. the only problem i have with that one is that it doesn't support eax 5.0. other than that, it's a beast. check it out on newegg. or thenerds.net.

Hi everyone ! (sorry for my english, I'm french!)

So, I've just buy a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality, with an optical in.
I've try to plug my 360 and my PS3 into this optical in, but apparently,
the sound blaster card cannot decode the DTS or the DOLBYDIGITAL signal...
only stereo PCM... But I want 5.1 for my 360 and PS3

What can I do ?
I'm sur there is a way to decode a DTS or DD signal from optical in with this card !

What I want :
360 (DD) -> optical (DD) -> X-Fi Fatality (DD to Analog)
PS3 (DTS) -> optical (DTS) -> X-Fi Fatality (DTS to Analog)

Please help me, explain me (with simples words hihi)

Thanks you !
