I've done a lot of research for anything related to my case but I'm hoping I can find the answer here (at the very least a strong lead to the solution).
Sound card:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum FATAL1TY CHAMPION SERIES
Operating system:
Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit)
My goal: To connect an XBOX 360 to the sound card via optical TOSLink connection with full Digital Dolby 5.1 surround sound.
Current situation: The only way I can hear any audio from my 5.1 speakers is by setting my XBOX 360 audio settings to Dolby Stereo. If I change it to Dolby Digital I experience no sound at all (just like many of the other users have mentioned abroad various forums)
What options do I have, if any, to get full Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound from my XBOX 360 to my PC speakers?
What I've learned so far: Besides Creative Labs having below-satisfactory customer service, I've learned that Windows Vista does not allow drivers to interact with the hardware directly and that any decoding (DD, DTS) is done on the software layer. Does this mean that the hardware on these high-end X-FI sound cards are not utilized?!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I really look forward to your responses.

Don't worry I'm getting Vista as my next OS with my New Computer You have wait I'm moving out March 25 and won't move into my new house to March 28 Plus I won't get my highspeed to week laterly. But I keep forgeting the New Checks from Bush sim plan won't happen to May but hey I don't have pay 6months for my computer with cyberpowerpc hehe. At the moment you can try daniel_k X-Fi Vista drivers. SB X-Fi series Vista Support Pack v2.15.0004A (Decoder, WaveRT, Hw MIDI) (02/13/2008) - Windows Vista - Creative Labs
DDL encoder on the way. X-Fi Crystalizer on Audigy cards / DDL encoder on all X-Fi cards (pending release) - Windows Vista - Creative Labs

As far as the question regarding Audigy Dolby Digital Decoding, I believe daniel_k's drivers reenable it. But you need to have SP1 installed for it to work. The advantage here is that the integrated decoder has the ability to decode signals coming from the SPDIF-IN.
Do note however, the DSP was never used for decoding purposes! It was always done on the CPU.

Yes sad. Creative always have a new driver to render all hacks useless like the dell and prelude hack. I think what pisses most people are X-Fi owners like myself who bought the card which promises DTS and DD but not supported in Vista. It's S$359 down the drain for me. So whoever hacks it gets my vote.

Yes xfi software suite 2008 is base on creative beta drivers from Jan 08 as of now from v4.07. I don't have high speed yet to reupload the fix package with the official driver set. It be week or two or a month depends which way I got with highspeed at my new house. I can go wifi or dsl at my place I can't take any more questions for now to I get my internet back up and runing to next week sometime.

Can see that you english is bad. It has been repeated over and over again that vista drivers are not ready. I've posted daniel_k's drivers on top of the page so use them first till some real mods comes around.

Ok, I know your situation atm
And I am very glad with Suite 2008 X-Fi, I don`t want you to make a new one with the new beta driver, I just want to know, if there are more moduls or sth. in the Suite compared to the driver itself, it`s difficult to explain for me, my english isn`t that good.
There is the Softwaresuite 2007/2008 and there are the other drivers, only named "4.07" or "4.08". Where are the differences between the Suite and the (only) 4.07/4.08 versions, I don`t get it, sorry

Hello fellow forum members.
I am confused as hell, because everything is so unorganized here.
I am searching for youp-pax drivers that contain the full suite for X-Fi in vista. This includes the nice GUI and the enablment of bass redirection and a visual equalizer. I have gone through the stickies at the top and have downloaded drivers which don't include this.
Please direct me towards a link that contains the most updated driver that includes the suite for Vista 64. I would goto the youp-pax forums, but for some reason it says my IP is banned. I have never visited the forums before so I don't know how that happened.
I appreciate all your help. Thank You.
