Z-5300e for a decent analog 5.1 set..
Z-5450 for a decent of digital 5.1 set that have wireless rear speakers Z-5500 for an excellent digital 5.1 set all logitech of course. I'm quite fond of the Z-5500 set... using a digital coax connection

Ignore the THX multimedia specification, it's nearly useless for PC speakers, there are plenty of systems that skipped THX certification that could have easily gotten it.
The z-640 are basically comparable to the x-540 speakers, don't bother changing if you aren't getting something better than that. Speaker design doesn't change much over the years, Logitech just feels the need to refresh its lineup.

some of the best speaker system are some of the older ones...
so while i wasn't thinking that you may be looking at a "updated" version of the set you already have.... don't bother jumping to something that is essentially nearly the same in all manners. I listed the logical steps up in the logitech department. i know creative has gigaworks systems that quite likely pass the overall power and quality of logitechs top set.

I'm looking around 70watts woofer again hehe 280watts be to much for small room in a house lol.

No wattage is to much for any room..... wattage is clarity and quality ..... while yes, the extra wattage is usually tied to larger rooms... the wattage allows for a higher quality with less distortion and more of a penetrating audio wave... the further you have to fire out that sound so that it's still fully audioable, the higher the wattage you need.
the nice thing about high wattage in a small room is that meer fact that you can at very very low volume lvls, still hear things clear as a bell, where as at the same volume on a lower wattage system, you usually can't... or it's harder... and of course the lower you go the harder it is... so while you'll likely never end up cranking the sucker to the max volume in any room, you still have relatively excellent low volume sound that would likely please you more then any other lower variant. So you'd like a digital set, well then the z-5450's or z-5500 would be your 2 logitech choices. however, to use them to thier full advantage, you need to make sure you audio device is capable of fiber/coax digital output, as well as either dolby digital LIVE! or DTS Connect..... these 2 are a must or else you'll be stuck with a 5.1 set doing stereo only, aside form the occasional passthrough digital connection such as playing a dvd movie which is already encoded with a 5.1 audio format digitally. Also, alot of audio devices are not capable of passing a analog line in through to a digital out. You may want to see if there is an option for "digitize line in" which takes an analog line in and digitizes so that it can then be processed and pushed through to the digital speakers.... I'm not sure but i don't think many are able to use DD Live or DTS connect on them either... you'll have to do some research on that however.

Since your on a XFI you might wanna get a Z5300 or the Z5500 and use analog. unless your planning on using Digital for when your watching dvd movies or movies encoded into 5.1 already.
Also the Logitech G51 are cheap also but I dont know how there are.

And FWIW, I personally don't like the sound of having stereo content played over surround. Stereo music I keep in stereo, movies, games and DVD-Audio is all 5.1 encoded, and sounds good in surround.

if you really are serious about sound quality, do NOT use dolby digital or DTS encoding, they're a lossy compression codecs - use either discrete SPDIF outputs (1 per stereo pair) or a soundcard with decent quality analogue outputs
high powered speaker systems are nice to have, but remember - with more power comes more amplification of noise floor, be prepared to spend that little extra on a set that may be slightly less powerful than a cheaper one, but it's noise floor will probably be lower, and the quality probably higher. also remember you need to DOUBLE the power output of a speaker to get a noticeable difference (3dB) in sound level

I have my X-Fi XtremeMusic connected to Z-5500's, works lovely
You should know that the XtremeMusic has Coaxial for digital out, and that you require a mono 3.1mm adaptor to connect a Coaxial cable to the Flexijack port on your X-Fi.You should be aware that EAX 5.0 will only work in stereo over digital, so if you're a gamer, you may prefer to use 5.1 analogue. Others have mentioned a need for Dolby Digital Live/DTS Connect (which will transcode non-DD/DTS sources into DD/DTS for 5.1 output to your speakers). This isn't really needed. For video files, you can download AC3Filter to achieve the same results - I use this to watch my movies w/ 5.1 AAC sound in 5.1
