QUESTION Re: Possible AGP ATI Cards??
HI
About a year and a half ago, I made the mistake of going with an AGP MOBO rather than PCi-E assuming, wrongly, that card manufacturers would produce at least one genertation of AGP cards, in that the market would demand it.
Recently Nvidia released the 7800 GS card but fro what I see, in most benches, the X850XT PE stomps pretty good. Or at least hardly could be considered an upgrade.
So, was wondering if by any miracle, ATI might be considering an AGP card from one of the newer series-1800 or 1900?
Currently have an X800XT PE-going with an 850 PE doesnt really seem like much of an upgrade and a serious waste of $.
Any insight from those in the know would be great.
Thanks
EDIT
well, looks like it...maybe

um the olny AGPs will be the X1600's and mabey X1300's,
but no ... "higher end" cards will only be in PCIe 16X that
means no X1800/X1900 or real 7800 (not that agp GS LOL)

your x800 is good for at least another year. save your $ & ugrade your system.
bty the 7800 gs is the best agp card out there.
you might want to consider one of those 7800gt/mb combos out there. while the mb's involved tend to be on the low end they are a great buy for current amd users. get you right into pcie with a nice card for around $350

sure it is, especially when you get a free mb. & when it does start getting slow way down the road you just add another one.
assuming these offers are still available. they keep popping up & going away.

Yeah, I'd have to say that you should save up your money and buy something else sometime late this year or next year, even.
The 7800GS is a good AGP card, yes, but it's nothing compared to even a 7800GT PCI-e and it costs the same as a 7800GT PCI-e!!!
Getting a new X850XT PE or something like that is not really a worthwhile investment since you already have a X800XT PE.
So, yeah, just wait for a while and get all the new stuff when it comes out. AMD AM2 is expected to come out in June of this year, so that should be sweet stuff!

I just replaced my 6800GT for a X800XT PE. I had probs with 2 other high end ATI AGP cards but this one runs sweet. I'm a hard core AGP runner and just think we're being almost forced into PCI-E with the low AGP selection. I may go PCI-E one day but this X800XT PE runs so good it will be a while.

I've been very, very happy with my X800 XL 256 MB AGP card since last August. Seems those 16 Pixel Pipes make a whale of a difference.
