Catalyst 5.11 drivers were the last to be bundled with the old control panel. At least with 5.11, there was an option between the old control panel and the new CATALYST .net control panel. We are up to version 5.12 and 5.13 and you are now forced to use the new .net Control Panel, the old control is now not an option anymore. By signing this petition you are telling ATi you might be boycotting future purchases of ATi hardware.

If it's possible, spread the word.

Besides the CCC is part of natural evolution, Vista will have .NET built in and should work much better and the CCC has come a hell of a long way and isn't so bad anymore, I mean no more buggy than the CP for me.

But hey the more power to you, if you get what you want from them then get ATI to fix AiWs for us eh?

Hasn't ATi said that you can still use previous Control Panels instead of any of the CCCs? At least that's how I understand it.

Anyway, I won't be signing any petition for the old CP. CCC is working quite well and can only get better.

They already gave you a extra year with the classic CP. The classic CP has barely
been updated in like 2 years anyways... It was about time it died for the superior
CCC to take its place.

So your card is like what 2-3 years? Assumeing that you system is as old

wow 4-5 MB more then the classic CP pack (with task app disabled)
and just about 8-15MB total memory. You don't count count virtaul as
people like you like to do, even though it means absoultly NOTHING
perfomance wise. SDame with CCC other then a few seconds on boot
depending on YOUR system setup and YOUR configeration and YOUR
Startup order / AV / Firewall etc... things that IMO are 101% on you..

over 100s of installs and counting...
no problem here must be the "END user"

unneccary processes? Wow! you need to read up on the topic as it is NECCARY for CCC to have those processes for it to work the way it does. Aslo to improve the loading time and reponceiveness as peole like you wine about...

It possable to have ccc on you system with out those processes runing but then
you have to start the run time, wait about 5-10 seconds and then, start CCC
and it will take far longer then normal to load...

Use an old version the classic CP
use the driver only install with no CP
use 3rd party tools
user 3rd party CP replacements like ATT
etc......

Sorry if I seem a little blunt but I trie quickly a year with people wineing about
this. Go buy a nvidia card a pretend to your self that you won't be in a simular
boat in the NEAR future...

and something like good over 50% of users where already useing CCC
well before they dropped CCC... It's come a long way...

if It was 1 /100th as bas as so many of you make it out to be... I wouldn't

To be fair, many of this petition's points are worded poorly and have no merit at all; I'd go as far as to say no validity. As I've said countless times both here and in other forums, the old Control Panel hasn't been updated in ages (just go, look at previous Catalyst postings, and notice the old CP version; it has stayed the same for quite a while). I really don't see the problem; ATI allows everyone to download a package with just the Display Driver, and allows everyone to download the stand along old Control Panel. Put two and two together, and what do we have?

Hey, I didn't like CCC at first I would install it for a week or two then
switch to the classic CP. but as it improved it grew on me untill I eventually
switched over a very very long time ago... Mostly what held me back from
the change over? I was used to the old CP and no body likes change but
hey thats life...

Not really looked back... and as long as you not useing 256MB of ram
wich is barely enough to run windows optuimally little lone ANY programs.
Not to mention the bare minuim for gameing is 512MB and the norm is 1GB.
in such a case 8-15 megs of ram does sound like that much.

people are whineing about 1.4% of their system memory being used when
idle for reference thier web browser thier viewing thier page on right now
is useing about 80 megs wich equates to about 7.8%

I'm not sure where you figure it is slow.

It does use a "decent" amount of memory which can be an issue for people with say under 1GB of memory. Those people probably won't be using the advanced settings anyways and have no real need for the CCC at all.
Not sure how you figure this stuff.

My issue here is it is not compatible with .NET 2.0 unlike the 5.11 CCC which I have installed right now, working with 5.12 drivers.

Well naturally, its much more advanced code-wise than the old CP. I see right now ATI still has separate downloads for the drivers and CCC for Windows XP, but not for the 64-bit XP version. Perhaps allowing separate downloads for 64-bit would stop minor amounts of complaining about download times.

The CLI's always being resident in memory by default is a gripe of mine as well. I understand WHY it is there, but don't like being forced to disable it on my own. ATI should really consider adding an option to disable teh preloading of CCC into memory and instead allow the user to change the way CCC loads. One option (and the default) would be to keep how it is handled right now. The other would be to not have it preloaded, but naturally have it take longer to load into. As I personally don't enter the CCC very often, I find it more annoying than anything to have it always loaded into my system.

I'm definitely not signing this petition, I'd just like a few issues cleaned up that I've mentioned already in this and other posts elsewhere.

I assume you are talking about Firefox here as I've yet to see Opera or IE take up that much memory.

For me, CCC is slow, maybe because my cpu is quite old (Athlon TB 1,4 with 1GB PC-133 SDRAM), it takes a while to load control center. Also, I dont like any unnecessary background programs like this one instaled with CCC.
Anyway I switched to Omega Drivers + ATT and I don't need control center anymore. If you dont like CCC you can always try combination "driver only" catalyst installation +ATT.

not really, most browsers dont need that much memory they expand on the fly to aid performance in certain situations. of course there was an issue with firefox leaking memory but that was different.

as for this petition, it will go nowhere. ATI are committed to this direction on a very high level. I think its one of those things that people will adapt too over time. People seem to read figures in task manager and feel they are losing memory to other apps etc, but it isnt quite as simple as that, it has however been discussed before and im not going over it again.

Ya and I gotta say, I find it's the correct way for ATI. I mean, many NEW users (not pros like us ) find it MUCH easier than the old CP. I know my bro does since he's a computer newbie. And the beauty is, it still gives a decent amount of custimzation! Honestly, I love the CCC more and more with every update

Besides if you don't like that there is Omega with the ATI Tray Tools and that takes even less memory than the CP

All ATI has to do is set the CLI.EXE file to load as a SYSTEM service.... volla, instantly will look nice an tidy in the task manager ..

Although i'm kinda wondering why there is 2 CLI.EX's start.... i've installed the drivers serveral times on many machines.. and some machines.... only have 1 CLI.EXE on startup.... it's quite strange and i haven't figured it out..

Aside from that..

I can see the complaints about the size of the download, but it's kinda null, seriously, even as a 14.4k Dialup user with terrible DC issues..... It's utterly pointless to try to manage anything new... just stick to your older machine, set everything to TEXT only, and use it for simple ZERO attachment emails, msn messanging.. and basic research.... Anything more, and your just going to get frustrated waiting for anything to load. The internet is utterly low band up to High bandwidth oriented.. (low speed being the lowest DSL/Cable/Wireless/Satalite/Tx/fiber connection anyone can afford)

It's actually starting to get to the point that some of the very low end of these connections are getting kinda sluggish.... if your 1.5mb/s connection down, your probably noticeing that the low bandwidth version of audio/video or general load times, are starting to stutter or take ages loading. IMO, 3mb is probably a good place to start... 5mb is pretty damn good... and 10+ is where it's at

I think the latest CCC is a godsend. I decided yesterday to try it, so i installed it w/ .net 2.0 and it wouldn't start but i didnt give up. I uninstalled 2.0 and installed 1.1 with all the updates. It works fine.

I was a serious sceptic up until yesterday when i double clicked the ati icon and CCC popped up just as fast as CP ever did. so please give the 5.13 ccc a shot.

But CCC is bad! Really bad... It's aiming to become same bloatware as Creative's (X-Fi, Audigy, SoundBlaster) drivers. But seems that whole software industry is getting in this direction as well. Eye-candy menus, waste of money for graphics design of nothing, eating up resources for nothing, not to mention software development resources costs (these programmers should fix bugs, not doing queer menu makeup)!

Imagine if every hardware device in our PCs had CCC-like stuff to control it! It would be worst nightmare and such computers would need extra 5GHz CPU and 4GB of RAM to support it, and they would become impossible to administer! But in the future we WILL buy these extra CPUs and RAM because we like to spend our money, and we all love fruit-cake menus right?!?
