Game Tests with the Radeon 9700 PRO and Catalyst 3.0 Drivers
Hi,
I ran some test on the Radeon 9700 Pro, to see which game would work fine with the video card, and which game would need some tweaking in order to get them to work. Please post the game you played with on your card and your experience with it, also what you did to fix it. Also post your system specifications including Operating System, Motherboard type and model number, Video card (obviously the Radeon), Processor, Sound Card, RAM capacity and type of RAM, and setting that are not set to default such as Fastwrite. I ran my test with all the setting on the control panel set to the default. All my game graphic setting was maxed out except for FSAA on some games which I left off. Catalyst 3.0 also fixed some of my problems such as stuttering with some games and also cleared out some artifacts such as the one I had with Games like Serious Sam.
System Spec:
Os: Windows XP (sp1)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-8IHXP
RAM: 1GB RDRAM 1066Mhz (4 256Mb Kingston modules)
Video Card: Radeon 9700 Pro
Video Drivers: DX9, Catalyst 3.0 (no modifications made to drives)
PSU: Turbo Cool 475 Watt
Sound Card: Creative Audigy 2 platinum
Processor: Intel P4 2.8 GHz
AGP is set to 4x, Fastwrite is on
I also attempted to run each game with full hardware acceleration and dropped it one notch if it didn’t work.
Games Tested:
No One Lives Forever 2:
- Vsync On
- This game ran flawlessly, I played through the entire game with out one glitch. There was absolutely no stuttering whatsoever (I looked hard every level).
Jedi Knight II Outcast:
* Hardware acceleration in troubleshooting tab had to be turned down one notch
- Vsync On
- Did not notice any stuttering or artifacts, worked flawlessly
Half-Life:
- Vsync off
- Refresh rate stuck on 60Hz
- Some tearing if you strafe
- Other then the tearing I did not experience any stuttering, One problem I did encounter when I tried the Anti-Aliasing after Catalyst 2.3 is the image scrolling after escaping to menu and returning to game.
Need for Speed – Porsche Unleashed Demo:
- Ran flawlessly, no stuttering problems
James Bond 007 Night Fire Demo:
- Light Stuttering, you really have to look to see it
- Playing this game normally not looking for stuttering seemed to run with out any problem, couldn’t even notice the stuttering. This game did stutter a lot with the Catalyst 2.5 drivers but was fixed after installing Catalyst 3.0
Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Demo:
- Did not encounter any problems with this game, there was absolutely no stuttering.
Serious Sam:
* Hardware acceleration had to be dropped one notch in the troubleshooting tab
- Stutters lightly in areas with a lot of textures and effects, noticeable in the starting point of the technology test.
- Vsync On
Serious Sam SE:
* Hardware acceleration had to be dropped one notch in the troubleshooting tab
- Shutters lightly, you really have to look to see it
- Vsync On
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force Single Player:
* Hardware acceleration had to be dropped one notch in the troubleshooting tab
- With out hardware acceleration dropped the game will run fine for about 2 minutes then begins to stutter heavily to the point its impossible to play
Quake III – Team Arena Demo:
* Hardware acceleration had to be dropped one notch in the troubleshooting tab
- Works flawlessly no glitches nor stuttering problems
Soul Reaver 2:
- I just get a black screen except for one the beginning movies. If anyone get this game to work on there Radeon 9700 Pro please tell me, I have tried everything to get it fixed
Iron Storm Demo:
- Consistent stuttering problem, stutters are exactly the same time apart and same time in duration, about 2 seconds apart. Could not get this game fixed
Soldier of Fortune II Single Player:
* Hardware acceleration had to be dropped one notch in the troubleshooting tab
- If the hardware accelerating is not dropped one notch the game begins to stutter after a few minutes of playing. Other then that this game worked without any problems
