9600xt agp/write probs

i recently bought a 9600xt and had issues with it, it ran ok with catalyst drivers but just didn`t perform. I switched to omega drivers and it runs smooth. The problem i`m having is in the smartgart it says agp off and read and write off. when i change them to agp 8x and read/write on and restart they go right back to off. How much of a performance loss am i getting because of this and how do I correct the problem? And whats your opinions on fast write on this card?

sounds like it is having difficulty interfacing with the AGP/chipset, Try reintstalling your MainBoard Chipset drivers..then your Graphics card drivers. If you don't have chipset drivers installed or they are corrputed they will slow down EVERYTHING, especially a AGP card... you'll know if thats th issue becuase when you go into check those settings everything will be on. it should say AGP 8X not OFF...I am almost positive this is your issue...goodluck.

thx

thx for your reply. I got it figured out, for some reason the card didn`t like the newest via agp driver or something. I uninstalled the omega drivers and agp driver. Then i installed the agp driver from my motherboard disc and reinstalled omega driver. All my options are back working again. hope this works for someone else with this prob. cause i read alot of forums. Sure seems weird and gonna mess around with a few thing but it seems to perform alittle better at 4x agp then 8x. And also gonna try with fast write on even though from what i read that ati doesnt like fastwrie.

Thx again

This is a commonthing the Chipset driver thing..you can always tell becuase when you check the card..everything is off, including AGP..because it has no idea how to communicate. Can I ask you what games you play? I am getting a 9600XT this weekend, So I am interested what new games I will be able to play..thx for your info

Well, i`m playing alot of Battlefield 2 and even with agp off, i was running medium settings with 2x AA. I didn`t think there was much of a prob cause the gameplay was smooth till i left my ati tool running and it would show my FPS dip into the red from time to time. I`m sure the card you get will be better than mine, cause i got mine from imagestore. It claims to be a 9600xt but it has cheap hynix memory on it and core runs at 400mhz not 500 like xt`s. and the mem clock is around 360, a real disappointment. Last time i buy anything from them. But i think i can get a steady 40 fps in game may just have to do some adjusting to this that and the other.
