x800pro fan rattle?
ive had an odd noise comeing from my case that i hear every now and then for about the last week. it just seems to come and go. for awhile i thought it was my HDD acting up since it sounded like it was searching for something.
well tonight i finaly poped the case open and had a look around. it sounds like its the fan on my card thats rattleing around, or something inside the fan caseing is bounceing around. i actually just blew compressed air into the fan and things seem pretty quiet, but i can still hear the sound slightly.
could this be a loose fan or what? if it is, would it be best just to send the card back in? (as far as i know im still under warrenty) i really hate touching anything in my case because everything is so damn expensive.
current card temps are 40C according to overdrive. the card is also "old" in terms of the x800 life. i picked this up as soon as it was available to consumers (first weekend they were released) and its been used about 8-15hrs every day since then.

I just bought an x800XL and have the same problem. My card is not working right either (I have another thread here going about that issue). Perhaps that has something to do with the problem? I'm not sure that fan rattle is really an issue, though. Does it or can it make a difference to card performace? Anyone?

im just more worried that if the fan rattles now it will continue to loosen the screw until it eventualy falls apart causing some serious damage.

If it's still under warranty I would send it back,While you can Like you said you don't want the screw to come off and go flying around in the case.Or maybe a drop of lubricant on the video card fan? Good luck

RMA it, the rattle you hear is likely a bad fan bearing should be covered
Under warranty (unless your fan is caked with dust then I don’t know)
Happens when the fan "grease" is contaminated by foreign material
most commonly dust works it way "into" the fan motor. Dust builds
up and cakes up the path. Can be the bearing used in the fan wasn’t
100% round. But can be they didn’t use enough grease at the MFG
or that these is a physical problem with the path the bearing takes.
Even is brushless fans there are thing that do the same thing. Keep
the fan roter on top of the fan motor while allowing it to freely rotate.
But then again can be a lot of things. Could be a slight wobble or
something.
You could buy a 3rd party fan but then you might be kissing your
warranty good bye. Because any modification of the card if disclaimed
under most warranties. So RMAing it would be the better option.
You'd have to talk to thier support you might get them to cross ship
you a fan and you send back the old one. Don't know if they will allow
that but it might be something to ask and see.

Might not need to do that. You can oil fans and it fixed mine a number of times.
Google for it. Something like "fan grinding +oil"
