Aiw 9600xt

Hey guys, Was just looking for opinions on this mdel. I am upgrading from a 9200SE to this one. When I was asking for options for video cards that wouldn't break the bank the 9600 pro was mentioned so I decided to go with that. IT's an alright price. Then this AIW 9600XT came onsale and I decide to get that. Basically what is the difference between PRO and XT flavors? Now I read a review that the AIW XT was up against a normal XT and the AIW was a little faster. Compared to my 9200SE, Can I expect good increases in performance as well as effects the 9200 is only DX8 while th XT is DX9..not to metion the slew of awsome video options and the remote. So guys can I get some info, regarding this model..as it also has the tv out on S-Video as well as composite..thats cool as I never really like the clarity of composite..I love the clarity of S-Video though. I am not a reall big gamer but maybe I would be if I got a better card instead of this 9200SE..I got it for free though...thx for any info guys. I know there is a AIW forum but I don't want info about the AIW features I want info in general about the XT models...thx

I am in Canada I am picking it up for $150, Thats a good price. You wouldn't get that card for under $115, not new. It was some kind of promotion. it's over but I got a ticket for it so I will be picking it up in a bit. I called around to the other shopd in town and the wanted around $260..Thats the way it is.. SO can you give me your opinions of the card? like whats picture quality like for video outS? PVR functions?..etc..can you give me some tips or best drivers to use..I sold my wife on it by telling here I would hook it to the big TV and she could pause her soaps..lol...Can you tell me about it? I am counting the days until I get it..BTW I was gonna get just a plain 9600pro and it was $105 so $150 isn't much for all the extra vido features and the remote. You can't get cards with all those features around my area for even the price I am paying. You must be in the states so when you factor in exchange rate and tax..then you see what we pay..I appreciate any advice you can give me. OH Who does it handle games? I am not a newest fastest, best FPS type of guy but I like some games. I am getting it more for video applications..but it sounds like it does it all am I correct in assuming that? probably be better than my 9200SE huh? CAN'T Wait

Well I am not that big of a gamer, i do like some though..they ran a head to head test between the 9600XT and the AIW 9600XT and the AIW was a few frames faster, I am just all siked about the video features also. So I will see some improvments, all the DX 9 spec shaders and stuff, And I like the Svideo in and out, I had another card that had S-video out and it's so much clearer than the composite(rca). See most of the games I play are fine on a 9200SE, so I guess they will fly and look great on the 9600XT..I have an LCD also that when I installed it, it hurt my eyse for a bit because it was so bright, compared to the CRT I was using. Anyway I appreciate your info, I don't think I will be buying a new card for a while after that because it has everything I couls want in a video card and for that price..it's a gift...I have three TV's in the house so I am gonna wire it into the main cable lines, so I can use the features anywahere in the house...So is there any tips you can give me?

Well to be honest I just got my first AIW..so I'm just now learning about all the features and I must say that its pretty cool stuff...I saw that you said that the 9200se was playing your games good enough but what you will now be able to do is turn alot of those graphics setting up....and that card has dx9 features that will now make all the stuff you were missing now visible...but you might not notice that much cause it all depends on the type and age of the game. Some older games use older versions of dx.But anyways the most you will notice is just the fact that you can bump up the settings more with your card...

well I am also interested in the video features, the S-video I/O is a nice touch. The realtime MPEG encoding. My computer desk will be outfitted with a new external VCR and DVD player. I wanted to ask you , that output that look like the headphone connector, thats for connecting to the line-in of your soundcard correct? now does all the audio from the AIW come through that?..like I have heard of people having issues with no sound and such with other models but if all the cards audio comes through that into my line_in then it's fine. I am buying it for the video features and the price. but after reading reviews it seems like it's a mid level performer. how did you find it for your games? what games did you play? I will get some DX9 games to check out all the cool 9 specifications effects....thx for the info

Well I am getting an AIW 9600XT for $150 CDN..and for your guys that live in Canada you know this price is extremely LOW..The 9600Pro is $107 CDN..so for the little Extra I am getting all the Video features plus the remote, you gamers think this will DO? I know it's not a powerhouse but it's not the smallest kid on the block either and I am switching from a 9200SE, a guru said that the card I am getting is about 2X the power of the card I am using..awsome..can't wait...

Us guys in Canada know that 200 bucks for an AiW 9800 pro is a hell of a better deal

hey I have another question how would a AIW 8500DV rate compared to the 9200SE I have?..which has more gaming power..besides video functions...which is better?
8500DV 4X 64MB, or 9200SE 8X 128MB..I know the 9200SE is severly limited...is the 8500DV better? this is unrelated to my 9600XT purchase...I am thinking of trading for some other parts..thx H3X

Take the 8500 DV the performance delta is really small probably, aside from the memory, but the video features make it a far more valuable card IMO..

In terms of pure performance I think they're equal TBH

Hey H3X, are you saying that I should grabe a AIW 9800 for $200? I haven't seen them around here for that...I have been saving for the 9600XT, and I am under a time limit to buy it...I'll run a search and see how much I can get it for...

I've seen it numerous places for $250, its a much better deal as a 9800 pro beats the hell out of a 9600 anything.... but the special for 200 ended some time ago, I suppose :S

Hey H2X, in terms of RAW performance% how much better would the 9800PROAIW be compared to the 9600XT, I found it for $199, but then I have to wait again..like I am upgrading from a 9200SE, SO i am gonna notice major increases either way..Are you suggesting I wait and get the 9800PRO AIW 128mb?
you say beat the hell out of..but is it really that big of a deal? or just a few FPS...thx for the info..

The difference is nearly double :| The memory bus is 2x as wide and it has 2x as many pixel pipelines. At 1600x1200 its no comparison, nor is it at 1280x1024, or 1024x768 with anti aliasing on.

It will be FAR more than a few FPS

so I guess I should get that then for the extra $50? I just didn't want to waste the 50 if the increase wouldn't be that great..I am gonna have to think of something, deal is almost over..

Yeah, I don't think I can get the money quick enough. See all deals aside, this place sells the 9600XT package for MORE than the 9800Pro package..after doing some reading I guess it's because the 9600XT package is loaded with software. I know thats not a big deal, but I also have to think of other things besides gaming..But I will think about it..thx for the info though H3X...I am upgrading from such a low grade card that I should be happy anyhow..

Yes I know. I will have to see. I know it's only fifty more but I have been saving for the 9600XT..this is cat and mouse..I will try and get a rain check for it..then I can wait and save up...I am not really that into games though. I would rather get a DVD burner for that $50, but I't naggin at me though I want the 9800PRO...I'll let you know how it turns out. It comes with like NO software...the other is loaded..but thats nothing though..

I really appriciate your help though, I have to quit somwhere though, another $50, I can get this, another $100 I can get that..$200 more and I can get a Xetc..see what I mean? I think I am gonna get good performance out of the 9600XT, thats why I am excited. Rmember I am upgrading from a 9200SE..so this new model gonn be alot better..I can't wait to set up PVR also. The software I was speaking of was Pinnacle Video Studio, and another that turns your Video into Flash..etc.. What would be a good game to get to test this card out H3X, I have here, SOFII,MOHAA, enter the Matrix-new.. There is a shop in town that sells used games really cheap, can you reccomend a game, that would give me a good demo of what this card and DX9 is capable of? do you know what I mean? besides doom3
