X800Pro Driver Install Problem
Ok, here's the deal...
Just bought a whole new rig: Fatal1ty SLI Motherboard, Athlon 64 3200+, and Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro VIVO.
Everything worked fine for the first few days. Games ran perfectly. After about 4 days, I was unable to do anything that called for Direct3d, i had lost all support. I tried to reboot, but as soon as the windows screen popped up, the whole computer immediately shut down. It continues to do this everytime now.
Here's what i have attempted so far:
Boot into safe mode (works),
Uninstall the video drivers,
Reboot,
Reinstall the drivers again...(ok so far)
Reboot as prompted...
Shuts down at windows screen again...
After that, i uninstalled the video drivers again.
Now everytime i booted windows, the automatic hardware detection would find"Radeon X800 Pro" and then immediately shut down after the little popup disappeared.
I then tried a fresh install of windows xp pro.
Everything fine until i tried to install the video drivers. I tried older versions, but it seems as soon as the computer loads the video drivers, it immediately shuts down.
My next step was to RMA the card, but i wanted to get a second opinion before I did. I'd hate to RMA something if the problem is something i did.
Thanks ahead for any help

Why would that help if the PSU is bad?
What wattage and make is your PSU, and do you know what the +12 and +5 voltage rails are like?

my power supply is brand new, its a thermaltake 480watt...when my comp was working right, my uGuru was reporting my voltages to be fine, my 5 volt was around 5.17 or something, and my 12 was a lil above as well.
I really don't have a lot running in my pc, just a cd burner, 2 hard drives, the sound card that comes with the fatal1ty mobo, and my video card.
I tried updating my nforce drivers....ran driver cleaner on everything and did fresh install...video drivers in...comp shuts down on next restart again. Something slightly different tho...sometimes instead of shutting off, the Windows screen would load all the way apparently, but then the monitor would go into standby and the rest of the computer remained on.

Sounds like there is an apparent conflict when the video drivers are loaded. If nothing else helped so far, is there a possibility for you to do a clean Windows install?

Have you tried a different video card, if you have access to one? Does not have to be the same card. This would rule out the possibility if the same behavior remains there...

update: its been a while, and my comp still doesn't run right. I RMA'd the video card, got a new one back... did fresh install of windows, install updates and sp2...install the video drivers...crash on restart....tried updating bios...crash on restart...
This is really strange. Should I be ablet to watch videos and see graphics fine if my video card has no driver installed? Or run in 1024X768 resolution as well? I'm still stumped...
