ATI 9600 & need for speed unerground 2 problem

Hi there,

I just got copy of Need for speed underground 2 from a Pizza hut deal (free game with two large pizzas and coke :P )

The thing is: When the games starts, its all fine, but the starting page is all wierd.

The background picture of BRooke burke and the two cars look fine, but all the text and objects are just little icons of the background picture!!
See below - it's just so blody strange.

here are my specs:
video: AGP 256meg radeon 9600 series (brand was call Triplex)
celeron 2.8
512 ram
80gig drive
WinXp pro (service pack 1)

I was running very old catalyst drivers 4.2 - now updated to 5.6 last night from ATi site - just the actual driver and not the other stuff like control centre. It was a 10meg file.

But still getting same problem.

I was thinking of putting in my old AGP 64meg geforce mx400 card, and see what wld happen, just to make sure it was the radeon card. cant be bothered at this time of night.
or perhaps im not using service pack 2?? *shrug*

hope you guys can help!!

Cheers!

I would completely remove the old drivers and control center using driver cleaner and do a fresh install latest ati drivers, using the cc, not ccc.

Yep, you need .net framework 1.1 to run CCC which means you need sp2.

.NET 1.1 works on SP1. You just need to download the redist package

I am not totally sure the new drivers work well with sp1, I would install sp2 myself (actually I did).

edit: Mind you when I have problems like this I tend to reinstall chipset drivers (flash new mb bios if appropriate), vid drivers and the game itself. Just so I don't know what fixed it when it works after.

They do work fine. It doesn't NEED Sp2 it just wants it for the sake of reducing problems.

I hate doin extra work just to use something that has a maybe .0001% advantage over the latest, and will be phased out soon. Anyways, if you disable uneeded services, there is no difference.

Compatibility>Unoticeable performance advantage

That is true. Actually disabling the unneeded services increased performance moreso than anything.
