OK I give up WHY WONT IT BE A PE!!??
Okay so I thought I had this PE thing licked but NO NO its still unstable when flashed to PE BUT!! if I leave it as an XT and put it at PE speeds it runs artifact free for hours.
As soon as I flash it BOOM! artifacts I tracked thru a few BIOS's(very little changes in them really)I even tryed using the Modified Flashrom and put a blank BIOS(the one used for X800s to open the pipes) thru it once. I also discovered while in there the ROM is locked(wondering if that may have something to do with it?
I did the cheat way of changing my BIOS ID and clocks now granted its stable and shows up as a PE but the Cat's know its not cuz if I flip to the OD screen its set to XT clocks in there(no I dont use OD but its good reference)
FOR THE LOVE OF RADEON WHY!!???

if it works with out the Flashed at PE speeds then dont flash it. all a PE is a overclocked XT. so flashing it to PE will not make it any better then what you got it overclocked at.

There can be several reasons why this happens but a BIOS swap does not guarantee 100% compatibility. What happens when you flash then downclock? Do you still get artifacts?

Its also possible that BIOS has a different voltage setting or a BIOS for a different fan controller/temperature monitor.
Just take your BIOS you have now, edit it to have the PE speeds you want, then flash it with that to guarantee compatibility

Yes Hex that is a possiblity I have considered and flashing it with Powercolors own PE Bios makes no difference in fact I edited the device IDs and clocks of my original BIOS tho it showed up as PE the Cats still knew it was an XT ans the Overdrive clocks were 500/500.
Zardon I always check BIOS's before flash and the Mem timings are Identical.
daedel yes IF I flash it to PE and downclock it to say 520/540 the artifacts stop tho I can crank the crap out of it with the XT BIOS 540/573 is where I gave up. this Issue has something to do with the Memory tho I cannot for the life of me figure out what..

Well you'd do better off just to overclock it to 540/573 rather than suffer for just a name to show up and for overdrive to be there.
No point in using overdrive once you've overclocked that high as you've already voided the warranty

I don't even think it matters. For a few letters to change that you see once in a while, I don't think it is.
Just flash it with its own BIOS, using RaBit to edit the clock values to reflect the max OC

Thats a verry bad idea O/cing via the bios can land you in a world of hurt. He need only chage the timeing of the PE bios to match to orgional bios and see if it fixes the corruption issue..

How is it a bad idea?
Its the same thing if he runs his card @ those speeds, its just now his BIOS defaults to his best OC speeds.
Its better than screwing around with RAM timings which causes irreversable damage really easily
