rolleyes Catalyst or omega Drivers Or ATI Tool for OC ?

Hi Everyone,

I'm just about to OC my Grphics Card, should I use the Catalyst or Omega drivers, or should I use the ATI-Tool, or should I use something else for best results ?
As you can see cooling is not an issue !

My Specs;

MSI 865PE Neo2-Platinum Edition
2 Gig of RAM
Jetway - ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB with Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 2
2x80mm front intake fans
2x80mm exhaust fans
1x80mm side intake fan and funnel over the CPU

Im with Widkid on that one too
Not only can you use it to set your clocks you'll be able to control your Fan eg Dynamically according to temps you set it too and monitor the temps in the Taskbar if you so choose. I dont OC too much with it but I use the Fan Control and Temp Monitor always

Hi again,

ive just checked out the ATI-Tool, seems ok ! if I dont like it can i just roll back to my original drivers, or will any of the settings be perminant or detrimental to my card, or damage it in any way..

Overclocking does shorten the life span of that card but if I was you I wouldn't worry you'll end up replacing it fast.

The drivers, no, nothing is permenant in software. Anything you do to modify your hardware, yes, but the software is not permenant.

They seem good to me....have you tried ATI Tool?

With that card you should be able to get from 500/300 default (rough numbers) to somewhere around 575/340 with the arctic cooler.....I've seen even higher (610/245), but the RAM had wimpier cooling.

Try and go as high as you can without it screwing up by doing this:
Use ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tools and do the find max mem/core function. That will give you an idea of how high it'll go.

Then go up by about 10 Mhz, then play for about an hour, see if its ok, then play again after bumping it another 10 MHz. Once you run into problems knock it back 5 Mhz until its all good, and you should be OK.

I don't really use ATT because I find ATI Tool much better and I don't really need all the tweaks, but as for OC'ing, there should be an overclocking tab in ATT and there should be a find max mem/core button in there.

As for the yellow numbers it could be a frame count, to display FPS

Hey brothers from different mothers.. well the best tool that I've found for OC'ing your ATi card is radclocker which can be found over here at this site..
http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/ I also use the ATiTool for checking any problems with my OC and by far its gui and easy interface lets you tweak some of the finer points of the card like latencies, which can be found here..
http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ . Always make sure you have proper cooling for your video card, I can't stress this enough and I'm sure anyone that has OC'd there card will tell you the same.. and it doesnt hurt to go out and grab a descent vga cooler with some copper heatsinks for the ram. Best of luck with your overclocking and be careful.. you dont want to fry the sucker

peace.

p.s. I use the UniAn driver set and in my opinion it is the best set out there right now for the 5.6 (seriously). http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=77415

Ive finished playing with the Unian v1.1.56 and using ATI Tray Tool v 1.0.2.685. To see how my Graphic Card would "Overclock" below are the results;

CPU @3423mhz DRAM @256mb
Values Default :GPU 500.00mhz Mem 600.00mhz
Max OC with 0 artifacts (Average 3x each) GPU 519mhz Mem 659mhz
Max stable combination with 0 artifacts: GPU 514.80mhz Mem 644.40mhz
Temps: Room 22.7oC
Idle: CPU 28oC SYS 29oC (MSI Corecenter)
GPU 31oC ENV 32oC (ATI Tray Tool)
Load: CPU 45oC SYS 31oC
GPU 40oC ENV 45oC

Q. Is it possible to OC this card BETTER ?

I'm in shock ! 6 hours and no feedback hehe............is the card that bad and you are all being polite, gee thanks guys hehe.

There must be something I can do to it apart from burn, break or buy a new one. Any constructive suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thats excellent SexPistol.. your doing great with the overlock. It all depends on your vga cooling, if your using stock cooling then thats fantastic. I use the Zalman Ultra quiet cooler VF700-cu and its simply amazing. I've been able to overlock my card which is a 9800 pro default Core - 378 and Memory - 338, with the Zalman I've been able to reach Core - 415 and Memory - 385.. which in my books is pretty damn impressive. As long as your not getting any artifacts and such with the overclock keep going in increments of .5 and make sure its stable for about and 1hour to 2 hours.. maybe more depends on how paranoid you are about it frying it.. lol good luck bro

Hey Damage,
Ive fitted an "ATI Arctic Cooling Silencer 2" On my Card and my temps seem good so I thought it may have OC'd slightly better than it has. Dont get me wrong im pleased with its performance. I'd just like to see how far it can go, without toasting it....

Ive just checked out the Zalman I can see why you have had such big increases on your card...........Its a cool beast! Good choice. With my AC Silencer the temps are quite low, so is the problem, my settings my card or me. Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Ya I looked around first for my vga cooler and I did some research on the vga silencers but I'm crazy about overclocking so I needed to best of the best and the Zalman vga cooler I choose was something I needed for my crazy addiction lol. There roughly about 50 dollars Canadian and with the performace I've gotten out of it.. it was a well bought purchase. I tried another cooler before I got this one and man did it suck.. I actually had to underclock my card so I wouldn't get artifacts, it was called VANTEC ICEBERQ4 COPPER VGA COOLER..
