9700 Pro Advice?
I just bought a nice ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. The main game I am focusing on is Battlefield 2. I played the demo and I ran everythin on medium settings and it runs very smooth. All I want to know is, is there any way that I can increase Framerates per second other than overclocking.

some, but only very few 9700pros _I THINK_ can be softmodded to 9800s. now what this does for you in terms of performance I'm not sure but check it out. I used to use omega's 9800 soft-mod on my old 9500pro and it worked for most games except things like splinter cell, then i had to use the 9700 soft mod but the driver swapper made it real easy.

Try the mod mentioned above, turn down the graphical options in the game and ensure you have no antialiasing or anisotropic filtering forced in the ati control panel. Other than that, make sure you don't have a lot of programs running in the background and that you've done a disk cleanup/defragment.

I had a 9700pro and upgraded to a x800xl. A bud of mine has a 9700pro and gets great framerates on bf2 but you need a really fast processor (3.4ghz+). Hell I run most settings 1024x medium/low due to lack of processing power.

Just overclock the thing....but where you'd buy a 9700 is beyond me, I thought they were extinct.
I loved the one I had....best card ever (until the 9800 came out a few months later)

Refurbed ATI 9700pros were quite common on eBay a few months back. I bought a 9700pro last October for $150 USD and its works perfectly. 9800pros are now available OEM in Toronto for about $200, i'm tempted but doubt it would be a significant upgrade. 90% of my gaming demands are CS:S, awaiting Day of Defeat Source and I might grab a copy of BF2 if it prooves to be as good as people say.

If you're in Toronto, check out PC Village or Premier, I usually shop at PC Canada but PC Village is where I may get my next card. If you're also willing to travel a bit farther (Down by Square 1 in Mississauga), Liata has some really good deals as well and a big stock

I would overcock the card. Just go slowly when overclocking it and check for stability. I would also make sure you have any unneccesary processes killed in the background as well.

I'm a Mississauga-ian so some of these locations are good. Usually I look at www.canadacomputers.com or www.infonec.com, but these sites look good too. Bookmarked.
