Upgrade 9600Pro 4x AGP 128m
I am interesting in upgrading my video card, Any advise on which card would be great? Motherboard supports 4x/8x. Does 256 vs 128 make an impact?
Would 9800 XT 256m be a good replacement?
Basics system info 1gb ram PC1066 RDRAM(can upgrade ram to 2gb but it is hard to find -Tiger Direct does not have it- and expensive), Intel P4 3.06HT
Expect to upgrade system in a year......
Thanks in advance

If you want to go ATI X800XL to give you the best bang for the buck.
However, if you'll consider Nvidia 6600GT or better yet 6800GT.

128 mb and 256 mb cards are pretty close, there isnt that much of a difference yet, but something like a 6800GT or a X800XL are future proof and will last u a couple of years.
i personnaly wouldnt upgrade to a 9800 XT 256m, it depends on your budget, but as necrosis said either a 6600GT or a 6800GT would be better and u would see the improvement.

Hmm I know some of the Dell's take special power supplies, but I don't know about the Gateways. It might be worth the investment in a quality PSU for later on too.

Definitely Get atleast a 400w PSW even a generic one ill do,their only 25-50$
go for a 9600pro/xt 128/256mb because the 520 is almost upon us and AGP is dieing so i would get a nice good value card and ride it for as long as you can!!!(sorry if it sounded suss LOL!)
Good luck!

Generic PSU's I would stay away from. Get quality, and you won't regret it.
The poster is replacing that very same card for some thing faster.

Interesting thing about PSU's: The weight is actually an indicator of a good PSU (more, higher quality capacitors/heatsinks), so go for one that feels really hefty.
