You'll read either setting it to "half your total system memory" or "no less than 1/3 of your total ram, but no more than half" or something similar. I suggest setting it to 128. Always seems to work best for me..of course I don't have a 9700 Pro, but anyhoo..

I always set it at 128mb, but my current setup auto locks it at 256mb. But yeah, 128 should be fine

Ahem...
There are a LOT of little myths and "common wisdoms" about this. The only time I've ever seen someone actually test it is this tweak3d article... http://www.tweak3d.net/articles/aperture-size/

Why on earth would we not allow linkage to other sites? The only things that we don't allow linkage to are things like warez. See our rules in the OT forum for more info

64 megs is a good number... some stuff crashes at less than that, and it's doubtful you'll need more than that (tryin' to run Doom3 on a VooDoo2 is about the only real-world scenario that comes to mind...)
That said, my h**p seems to be the subject of much attention. I post a lot on a couple of console emulation boards, some of which forbid direct linkage due to the whole "quasi-legal" status of emulators . So, it's sort of a habit... I'm very sorry I did it and it'll never happen again and pweeze don't be mad at me Mr. Uberlord I wubb j00 very very much with all my heart!![]() -Sporkpimp |

I Set mine for 64, and works sweet. I have 512DDR 2100, and when i place it at either 128 or 256, i get slowdowns.
Ive heard some people benchmarking it with 3dmark, and they lost over 2000 points when going higher than 64. |

I use either 64 or 128. I've never really noticed any difference either way. In fact, I'm not even sure what MINE is set to currently, but I DO know it's it's either 64 or 128.

For under 512mb in memory, I'd say 64mb is a good number for the aperture. For 512mb and above I'd use 128mb.

Why do you say that, Zarathustra?

That's just what I've come to after years of playing with that setting. Back in the day cards used to have big problems with large aperture sizes, so I've never gone past 128mb.

ATi themselves recommend setting it to 64Mb, or possibly 128Mb if you want, but no higher.

Well, on my system, with the 8500 128 MB Retail, I'm running at 256 MB Aperture and it works better there than any other setting.
My advice is to play with it and see which one actually performs the best on YOUR system. Dyre Straits

128MB AGP Apeture seems to be the way to go. I have tested 64/128/256 ... Everything seems to perform better at 128.

I think that it is something that is individual to every system. Meaning? Stop reading threads about which AGP apeture is best, and go test em! Start at the lowest you can use (probably 16mb), bench, change to next highest, bench, change, bench, etc. until you know the sweet spot for your computer with the settings you normally use. Simple enough, and you don't have to trust to the gut feeling of us here in the forums for a good answer

I called ATi today to fix some common problem that everyone else is having (not like they did anyways). He told me to set it to 256MB to resolve some issues.
What issues? I have no idea and I dont think he knew ether. I have 1GB RDRAM 1066Mhz. Im assuming he just based that number he game me on the ammount of RAM that i have in my system. |
