ATI 9700 PRO Crashes

I have been playing LOTR BFME for a number of months now on my system : AMD 2800+, 1024 RAM, ASUS a7v8x-mx m/b with onboard sound and 64 meg graphics with no problem, albeit the game ran very slowly with low detail. Installed an ATI 9700 PRO yesterday, and have had nothing but trouble. The game runs quickly with good detail but the system "freezes" whilst playing requiring a hard reboot. This has also happened playing POP sands of time. I have been told it could be an insuffucient PSU or the video card overheating.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated as my son is now nagging me to play the game !!

I have installed latest drivers from ATI and updated m/b BIOS.

Welcome to the forums.

What kind and wattage of PSU do you have, and what case temperatures do you have?

Have you tried leaving the case door open and then play for a bit, and touch the card with your finger? Can you keep your finger on the heatsink/core?
